lasses cover essential topics and important skills for planning, planting, and caring for landscapes in the Sonoran Desert. Smartscape is currently held twice a year, in the early spring and early fall, in both Phoenix and Tucson, AZ. Smartscape covers a range of topics, including:

- Plant Selection and Installation
- Drip Irrigation Design and Installation
- Soils, Plants, and Water
- Landscape Water Management and Irrigation Controllers
- Desert Adapted Plants
- Maintaining Desert Adapted Plants
- Solutions to Plant Problems
Each class is taught by an expert in the subject matter. Smartscape is sponsored by the University of Arizona Cooperative Extension, the Arizona Municipal Water Users Association, and Tucson Water. It is endorsed by the Arizona Nursery Association and the Arizona Landscape Contractors Association. The University of Arizona Cooperative Extension is part of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
