What do CPAs need to know about the SEC climate-related risk proposal? 🤔

If you’re a CPA in the US, you should be aware of the SEC issued landmark proposal that would require standardized disclosure of climate-related risks for companies.

There is still a lot of unknowns, but the CPA Journal recently published a 5-step plan for approaching the changes:

1. Recognition: research the provisions of the proposal.
2. Education: ensure climate-related risk data is being collected and reported.
3. Cooperation: between internal parties and external business partners.
4. Implementation: implement a plan for collecting and reporting significant relevant information.
5. Evaluation: ongoing testing of quality and accuracy.

Interviewing isn't known for being the most comfortable experience. But what if you thought about it differently? What if you acted like a consultant?

I love this tip from a recent Forbes.jobs article by fellow Forbes.jobs recruiter Joel Peterson with BrainCloud Computing:

“Got into the job to interview the interviewer; you’re consulting with them about their problem” and how you can help solve it.

Talk about yourself, but do it with an “other-centered approach…A past employer was facing XYZ challenges and I did ABC…”

Consider closing with a clarifying question: “So right now, your department is facing (this challenge), and if the new team member works out perfectly, they will help get the company to (this positive) situation. So you need someone who has (these defined) qualities.”

Last month, Meta started requiring workers to be in the office at least three days a week.

Mark Zuckerberg claimed in a blog that engineer productivity rose by working in-person, especially for those “early in their career.”

While I stand firm in my belief that you can facilitate a successful, productive, and efficient remote work environment, this statement did get me thinking about the value of having in-office experience.

For those who entered the corporate world during the Pandemic, “work” looks and feels very different than it did for those of us who started in a traditional office job.

The privilege of WFH was never expected for most of us, but now, for those “early in their career” it is.
