Venting makes difficult situations easier to tolerate.

That’s why it feels good.

And the brain will choose soothing over change - unless we interrupt the pattern.

Regulate. Align. Act.

One of the most damaging myths:

“If this were right for me, it wouldn’t feel this hard.”
You chose to lead.
You chose to grow.
You chose to put yourself out there.

That doesn’t mean your nervous system loves uncertainty.

The brain prefers familiar — even when we choose growth.

Hard doesn’t mean wrong.

It often means you’re stretching.

Instead of asking, “Why is this so hard?” ask, “What skill is this building?”

Shift Your Thinking. Shift Your Results.

The String Theory of Connection - amazingly shared.

Huge noticing - that, when the first person didn't hold tight, the second time the respondent wanted to let go of the string.

I wrote down a goal to, by the end of 2026, live somewhere I can walk my dog by the water every day.
(I was imagining the ocean.)

A week later, a friend asked me to go for a walk and brought me to this park - with a lake.

It’s less than a mile from my home.
I’ve lived here for years and never once walked this way.

So now I can’t decide if my goal was achieved… or if my goal wasn’t specific enough.

Either way, the brain starts noticing what we focus on.

For now, we walk by the lake.

I pushed my bed into the corner so my old dog wouldn’t fall off.

Nothing dramatic.
Just safer.

He curled up and slept through the night.

For the first time in weeks, I did, too.

Sometimes the changes that matter most aren’t big or bold.

Just small adjustments to feel a little calmer, a little softer, a little more secure.

Small shifts count.

It's YouTube's birthday.

I remember my partner: "I found this cool new website - it taught me how to fix the toilet."

My introduction to YouTube.

We went into the office to watch the video. On the desktop computer.

Yesterday, a colleague: "I remember watching a YouTube video when I was 5..."

Sometimes I forget just how "old" I am - but someone is always there to remind me. :-)

Yesterday I had a headache.
Distracting, irritating, felt like “a lot.”

…until I dropped my phone on my bare toe.

Suddenly the headache wasn’t a big deal.

Instant baseline reset.

The lesson in the (ice-packed) experience? Check the baseline.

It can help put minor irritations in context:

> traffic
> long to-do lists
> things that are just… annoying

When measured against bigger disruptions:

> car accident
> someone is sick
> the things that are... an actual crisis

Don't get me wrong - both suck.

Headache or ice pack on toe. Both hurt.

This is NOT a "be grateful it could be worse" thing.

It IS a way to ask "Is this irritation or problem?"

And helps us allocate our words and thoughts (and time) accordingly.

Shift your thinking. Shift your results.
