Breed restrictions? Clearly not! We even allow Chihuahuas to board with us 😆

But honestly Biscuit is a very special Chihuahua.
Some may remember Biscuit. It has been almost 9 years ago that I, with the help of Jennifer Hill, moved Biscuit out of a local shelter.
Not too much later Cheryl D. Witherspoon adopted this special little girl.

In all seriousness.
I was chatting with a customer and was shocked that a few kennels he reached out to had breed restrictions in place.
The customer owns a Cane Corso, 9 months old, Neutered and fully vaccinated.
He had been turned away by several boarding facility strictly because of the breed of down he owns.
NO meet and greet, no visit, just an across the board NO.

I am a strong believer in judge the individual dog and not the breed.
Some of my sweetest, friendliest, loving guests are on those "band breeds"
While I have had Mini Pins and Cattle Dogs want to remove my hands from my body.

Sure there are certain breeds I am a bit more hesitant with, but I would never turn a dog away without meeting them first.
I have had Akitas, Chows and Scottish Terriers here and those are a few of my "red flag" dogs
If I didn't give them a meet and greet, I would have missed out on certain dog breeds that showed me, judge the dog not the breed.

I have also turned away one of my favorite breeds, the GSD, due to unstable behavior on a meet and greet.
Turned away a Catahoola and Chihuahuas as well

Judge the individual dogs!

Let's talk and ponder a bit about the benefits and drawbacks of boarding with Willow Haven.

1) The top benefit is it's just ME! You and your dog will ALWAYS deal with just one person.
I get to learn your dog and your dog bonds with just one single person while you are away. I learn and remember everything about your dog.
1) Top drawback, it's just ME! I do not have multiple people to do the work, I am the one to answer phones, emails, clean, play, schedule, and all that comes along with this business.

2) Next benefit. Our hours. 6:30am drop off, we got you. 8pm pick up got that too! But we do have very specific hours.
2) Next drawback. Our hours. No we are not open all day every day. You can not drop off at 10am or pick up at 4pm. Sundays...nope. I just need one day to not "human" yes, I am still caring for the dogs 😉 so kindly do not say "oh your day off"

3) Next benefit. Cost/pricing. I feel our pricing is on the low side of boarding facilities. Can you find cheaper? Maybe, BUT are you doing a proper comparison? Size of kennel? Outside times, one on one attention for your dog? Let's talk about ENDLESS quality treats 😆 after you add up all the "extra/upcharges" at other locations, let's just say this... We are a bargain
3) No drawback here. You get Bang for your buck with us, hands down.

4) Next benefit, I truly and honestly care about your dog AND you! If I feel there is something off or not right with your dog, I will let you know. A limp, weird poo (yes I have sent photos of strange poo) stress with your dog, all of it.
Human side, I have shortened vacation to take in dogs because there was a family emergency for customers. I have made meals and baked good for customers; we are all family!
4) Next drawback, I truly care! Sometimes owners just do not want to hear my concerns or suggestions about what would be best for their dog. Example, I will not watch and care for a dog if they are stressing out so much and an owner is not willing to help them with some sort of medication for stress relief during boarding.
I am not one to suggest medicating your dog unless it is REALLY needed.

5) Will wrap it up with this last benefit. Small facility. We have 17 spots (Deluxe and Suites only)
I will limit the number of dogs and factor in which dogs we have here at any given time. Just because we can house 17 or more dogs doesn't mean we do.
There is a science to exactly what dogs I have here and where they get to stay. Some dogs do not need to be next to others, some need a more chilled out environment, there honestly is a method to my madness 😆
5) Wrapping up the drawback to a small facility. We book up FAST and far in advance. Want to contact me in November for a Thanksgiving stay, Chances are a 99.9% NO.
Also being to only one working this amazing small business, that means 7 days a week. I have to take vacations. Have to! And yes, I reserve MY time, MY vacation. Sorry but not sorry my vacation comes before yours 😉
Lastly sometimes life happens. You cancel and I understand. The flip side, on the very rare occasion that life happens to me, I expect the same understanding.
I know it is a major inconvenience for you, but a death in my family and my family comes first.
If that is not acceptable, I do not need a customer who can't or doesn't understand that.
Storm comes through, takes down a fence or power? I am looking out for the wellbeing of YOUR dog! Inconvenient, yes I know, trust me I know all too well how inconvenient storms can be.

To sum up this HUGE post.
There are benefit and drawbacks to everything.
Weigh them out and make the best choices for you and your dog.
If Willow Haven is it? GREAT! Welcome 🥰

If Willow Haven isn't it? No harm, no foul ✌️👋

Thanks for reading my book 😆 feel free to comment your thoughts on the benefits/drawbacks of Willow Haven and heck even me personally...I can take it 😉

The entertainment for dogs in a natural setting is priceless.

I LOVE that we are able to allow dogs to do normal dog things while boarding with us.

Raven is a first time guest and hunting chipmunks has been her favorite activity so far.

Oh hey there 👋

We just had a cancelation for Thanksgiving!
This rarely happens as we have been booked full for Thanksgiving for about 4 months.

The vacancy is located on our Quiet Side.
Yes, it is as it sounds.
A very laid back, chilled out area.

If you might need this accommodation please know if you haven't boarded with us previously.
All guest who have not been here and booking the Quiet side would need a daycare ahead of time to be sure they are a good fit.
As not all dogs are a good fit for this area.

Tillie's update after her vet visit yesterday.
First off everyone at Easley Animal Hospital loved on this girl and she stole many hearts 💕
Jennifer Garriga Thank you so much!

Ok now onto the information we learned.
Tillie is around 1.5yrs - 2 years old. A young gal.
She obviously has had more than likely 2 litters (c-section scars)
Her blood work was really good and no red flags.
She is 60lbs of cuddles and love
A few hot spots so some antibiotic and a small round of Pred to get that healed up.
Heartworm NEGATIVE!!!! 🤩

Tillie recieved all her vaccinations, Proheart shot that covers her HW prevention for a year.
She had Advantage II applied.

She is scheduled for her spay on 11/29 and will also receive her microchip.

Tillie rides amazingly well in the car. Tries to climb her chunky butt in and settled down quickly.
She hasn't met a stranger.

Not sure on being housebroken as she is having accidents but things are still very new for her.
Mostly quiet in her suite.
She LOVES toys and has raided the toy box multiple times and loves to carry her babies around.

The person who surrendered her to me stated she did fine with dogs and cats.
They did say she was food aggressive. I have been able to easily take a toy or bone from her mouth.
She does love food and is learning not to countersurf.
In the kennel she occasionally will visit other dogs kennels. If they bark at her she just walks away.
ZERO signs of aggression.

Tillie will be for adoption or the proper rescue group.
If you or someone you know REALLY well might have interest, reach out to me.

Lastly, I have said this about French Bulldogs and I will say it about this girl.
Know ahead of time what you are getting into!
I can not stress this enough.
Most are medical disasters at some point in their life.
You WILL spend $$$$ and when you think you are done with the bills you will spend more.
Just count on that.
They are sweet, goofy, silly, total clowns that will steal your heart....and raid your bank accounts 😆

Thanks for reading the book of Tillie 😘

And power is FINALLY on in the kennel!

We still have tree removal to do and fence repair but knowing the pups are cool and comfortable in the kennel makes everything OK.

I can not thank friends and customers enough for all the offers of help, assistance, kind, caring and encouraging words and support.

Kennel STILL out of power. Running a generator for lights, fans and music.
Today at 2:15pm it is 85 degrees in the kennel!
81 degrees outside.
The 5 dogs in the kennels all have fans blowing in their areas so sure it feels cooler for them.
At least that is a good thing.

I called Duke Power last night and they said that there was no report placed that power was out.

I went online the day of the storm and reported the live power line down moments after it happened.
I also adjusted my report when the power was cut off.
What happened to my reports? Haven't a clue 🫤

It's hard taking care of one household, it's a bit harder taking care of 2 complete households, and it is even harder taking care of 2 complete households and a business that has no power and caring for other people's dogs!

Daily mantra....Doing the best I can.🥴

I know I do not have it nearly as bad as others that have lost so much. So don't get me or my writings twisted.
