🔥 In the fifth week of the PFFD Citizens Fire Academy, our city employees were able to get a better look at what it is like to be a structural and wildland firefighter.

The evening kicked off with an optional workout circuit led by our firefighters, followed by a trip in fire apparatuses to the night's training location.

Participants first reviewed the tools and equipment carried and used by wildland firefighters before hiking into the woods to put in a little sweat equity.

Next, they were given an up-close look at fire growth and behavior in the flashover simulator.

The Citizens Fire Academy class continues embracing new challenges and gaining deeper insight into the operations of the Pigeon Forge Fire Department! 👏

Please join us in congratulating our first ever Sevier County First Responder League Champions, Sevierville Fire Department.

The Sevierville Fire Department beat the Pigeon Forge Police Department 20-12 in the final playoff game last night to take home the trophy!

A huge thank you to all the teams that participated in this inaugural season! We enjoyed this time of sportsmanship and fellowship, and we look forward to growing the league next season.

In today's Throwback Thursday, we look back at the journey of PFFD Station 2.

It's hard to believe that our department moved into Station 2 over 14 years ago!

Station 2 currently serves the east side of the city as well as Pigeon Forge's contracted county coverage area. It is staffed with an engine crew, typically consisting of four firefighters.

When seconds count in a water rescue, preparedness is critical.

Recently all three shifts of the Pigeon Forge Fire Department completed an in-service for a new boat. Firefighters were given the opportunity to practice various methods for safely pulling victims from the water.

Come out tonight and catch some of our local first responders trading their uniforms for jerseys as the First Responder Softball League heads into the third place and championship games!

We had a special visitor at Pigeon Forge Fire Station 1 last week! 🚒

Handyman Hal joined our firefighters for a behind-the-scenes look at Station 1, learned more about the work our crews do each day, and even got to experience some firefighter training firsthand!

The PFFD team enjoyed showing Hal around and sharing what it takes to serve our community as a Pigeon Forge firefighter.

Today's Throwback Thursday takes a look at the PPE (personal protective equipment) worn by Pigeon Forge Firefighters 40 years ago.

While firefighting gear has made huge improvements in efficacy throughout the years, these pictures from the early and mid-eighties show just how much these brave firefighters were willing to risk.

Former Chief Denny Clabo and current Fire Marshal Roger Price have shared stories from those days about the limited availability of gear. They remember a time when the department only had five sets of gear, and it was a race to be one of the first five to get your hands on a coveted set!

While modern firefighter gear provides numerous layers of protection and complete encapsulation, the firefighters of the eighties did the job with large rubber boots, a coat, gloves, mask, and helmet. No lining in the helmet, no protective hood over the head and neck.

We salute those who came before us and did this job prior to the modern advances in gear and equipment.

Pigeon Forge Fire Department is pleased to announce the successful completion of the following Tennessee Firefighter Commission Certifications:

Zechariah Zavona - Firefighter II
Justin Hays - Fire Inspector
Charles Russell - Aerial Apparatus Driver/Operator
Anthony Phillips- Aerial Apparatus Driver/Operator

In addition to passing their commission testing, Charles Russell and Anthony Phillips also completed a weeklong Aerial Apparatus Driver/Operator class at the Tennessee Fire Service and Codes Enforcement Academy in Bell Buckle, Tennessee.

We are proud of the dedication of our firefighters to always strive to advance their knowledge and skills.

The Pigeon Forge Fire Department is holding a Community CPR Class on Tuesday, October 20th at 6pm.

This class is designed for anyone who wants to learn this lifesaving skill, and will cover CPR, AED usage, and common First Aid emergencies. This is a Heartsaver class designed for the general public (not BLS for first responders/medical professionals).

If you are attending to learn the skills, there is no charge. If you need to purchase a two-year certification through the American Heart Association (for a job requirement), the cost is $20 made payable to Walters State Community College by cash or check at the time of the class.

This class will cover adult, child, and infant CPR.
