As we start gearing up for the Pigeon Forge Patriot Festival on July 3rd and 4th, we couldn't help but share this vintage picture of the Old Mill. It's amazing to see the continual growth and evolution of our city. No matter where the future takes us, it is important we never forget our roots

This past weekend two of our department members, Blake Adams and Emily Wood, attended the ICISF Group Crisis Intervention class to train in providing supportive interventions after large scale or mass casualty events. These skills will build on previous classes taken in regards to peer support within the department. We are grateful to have a command staff and an administration that prioritizes not only our department's physical health, but mental and emotional health as well.

Last week C-shift had the opportunity to train in vertical ventilation on an acquired structure donated to the city to use for training prior to demolition. Using acquired structures allows our firefighters the opportunity to train in as realistic of a setting as possible. We are always appreciative of the community supporting our training efforts.

In today's Throwback Thursday we look back on a critical part of the job, community involvement. Whether it's participating in city events, hosting community groups, or teaching school children about the fire service, a firefighter's responsibilities goes well beyond responding to emergencies. We are very fortunate to have such a great community to serve here in Pigeon Forge

Here is a glimpse into our physical agility test, demonstrated by one of our Firefighter/Paramedics Ray Smith.

🔥This test is the first step toward a career with the Pigeon Forge Fire Department. This test is also utilized as a fitness and agility benchmark numerous times throughout the year for existing firefighters (including this test being completed in structural turnout gear).

If you are looking for a career that continually pushes you to be the best version of yourself, our department may be a fit for you!

Reach out to Emily at [email protected] if you would like a link to view the full length instructional video of the test or if you are interested in a future in the fire service.

Justin Hays had ambitions to work for the United States Marshals Service when he was younger. In fact, he was already working on one of the prerequisites by working as a DCS officer in the prison system when he and his brothers all joined the volunteer fire service together. Justin's older brother transitioned into the medical side while his younger brother went into law enforcement. But for Justin, the fire service took hold. After volunteering for Caton's Chapel for a year, Justin began volunteering for Northview-Kodak Fire Department before becoming full time there in 2016. In 2019, Justin became a full time firefighter for our department. He says that helping people is hands down his favorite part of the job. Recently, Justin made the transition within our department to the inspections division. Justin is married with three children, and service must run in the family. His oldest son currently serves in the Air Force and plans to join the Kansas Highway Patrol after his time in the military. Justin's middle son is currently going through the process to join our department as a volunteer firefighter, and his youngest child, a daughter, has taken on numerous charitable endeavors after winning within the Tennessee and Kentucky pageant system. We are grateful for Justin's spirit of service.
