Happy Almost Spring! š¼ šŗ
We took on what could have been a hazardous job. Luckily I was able to pull and dig out most of the debris that was in it before Gary started grinding.
This stump was filled with fencing, concret chunks, what looked to possibly be parts of a small metal cabinet and other assorted metal and junk.
Much of this stuff not only can cause major damage to the machine, but poses a serious risk of injury to the operator.
When the machine is running, it can catch anything and quickly wrap it up around the cutter wheel, or throw it if not seen in time. The carbide tipped teeth are pretty strong but can be broken when slammed against concrete or steel at 3600rpm. (Replaceable but a little pricey. We know it happens, but we do try to avoid it.) This is why we are thankful if you could clear the area around the stump when possible before we are to grind. (If you are unable, of course we do what we can.)
In this clientās defense, she just purchased the property and is out of town, so it was up to us.
Many people hope to save money by burning their stumps out, and we donāt blame them, heck we try to save money when we can also, but this doesnāt always work quickly, if at all.
If youāre going to try this, thatās up to you but know that when a stump is charred, it makes cutting it lower no longer an option because it will quickly dull and ruin a chain. This means added grinding time and adds cost to the job.
Side note, burning your stumps can also become a danger underground. Fire can spread to the roots and can continue to smolder underground, even when you think you have put it out.
We donāt recommend burning, itās better to call us and just have it taken care of in a matter of hours. š
