New Vent Unlock? Pipe Jack Shortcut We Found on a Roof
Get a load of this one. Someone ran a new plumbing vent pipe straight up through the old pipe jack flashing that was already on the roof and called it good. That is one way to do it.
A pipe jack has one job: seal the gap between the vent pipe and the shingles. When a new pipe gets slipped through an old flashing, the only thing keeping water out is whatever is holding the two pieces together, and that gap is where leaks start. The right fix is a new pipe boot sized to the pipe, tucked under the shingles above it and sealed tight to the pipe.
