3rd Alarm Fire — 252 Delavan St.

At approximately 6:10 a.m. on Monday, June 15, 2026, the New Brunswick Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 252 Delavan Street, a three-story multi-family residential structure with nearby residential exposures. The incident was upgraded to a 3rd alarm.

Crews operated aggressively and professionally under challenging hoarding conditions, successfully removing one victim and transferring them to RWJUH EMS. Firefighters brought the fire under control and contained the primary damage to the second and third floors of the structure. One resident was displaced as a result of the fire.

We extend our sincere thanks to the New Brunswick Police Dept., and all mutual aid fire departments that assisted on scene and provided coverage for the City, including Edison FD, East Franklin VFD, Monroe FD, East Brunswick Independent VFD, North Stelton VFD, Community VFD, Sayreville VFD, and Perth Amboy FD.

We also thank our Middlesex County partners, including the Middlesex County Fire Coordinators, Middlesex County Fire Marshal’s Office, and Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office, as well as the American Red Cross, for assisting the displaced resident.

Great work by all agencies involved.

The officers and members of NSVFC would like to announce the arrival of the new Engine 21!

We would like to thank the Board of Fire Commissioners for Fire District 4 for listening and understanding the need to replace our nearly 30yr old engine and upgrade to a more modern piece of apparatus suitable to continue to provide the most reliable & effective service to our residents.

Most importantly to the residents of Fire District 4, THANK YOU!! Nearly 3 years ago, the Board of Fire Commissioners put a special election together for a new fire engine. Yes that’s right you heard it, 3 years ago. Due to supply chain and demand you have waited 3 years to see the final product! Thank you for allowing us to purchase a new state of the art piece of apparatus to continue to protect and serve you. Our residents!

Lastly, all this would not be possible without the work of the members of the apparatus committee! The tireless efforts to sit and review drawings from when Engine 22 was built, review other new pieces of apparatus and the current industry standard against what is best for our needs to protect our residents, meetings with our dealer Fire & Safety Services, Ltd., pre-build meetings at the Pierce Mfg factory to ask the engineers who build the apparatus questions as they review specification drawings to ensure we can build this engine to meet our needs, and then a final inspection this past spring!

Engine 21 will be in service to our residents soon as we await some equipment to be delivered and placed onto the apparatus!
