SLO Coast Wine SLO Coast wine region is defined by maritime influence on our vines, not by lines on a map: fog, wind We look forward to welcoming you!

The SLO Coast wine region is defined by the maritime influence on our vines, not by the lines on a map: fog, wind, earth and sea all do their part to extend our growing season and intensify character, resulting in wines with bright fruit, vibrant acidity and complex flavors. You’ll find San Luis Obispo County halfway between San Francisco and Los Angeles on California’s pristine Central Coast. Our

wine region occupies that narrow strip of land between the sea and the slopes of the Santa Lucia Mountains, running some 60 miles from San Simeon in the north to Nipomo in the south. The SLO Coast wineries are spread out along the area’s backcountry roads, amid rolling hills lined with vineyards and orchards. This is the laid-back California landscape of the past — with a geology and climate ideally suited to serious wine making. Several of the SLO Coast wineries are open to walk-in tasters. However, we highly recommend that you call ahead or reserve online with your favorite tasting rooms to ensure a spot while visitor capacities are limited.

Every week we’re highlighting the growers, families, and vineyards that make the SLO Coast so special. This week’s Winery of the Week: 🍷

A true family winery rooted in the SLO Coast, Sinor-LaVallee is owned by longtime winemaker Mike Sinor and is now proudly entering its second generation with Tomas Sinor and Esmée Sinor helping lead the way.
With more than 30 years of winemaking experience on the Central Coast, Mike has farmed vineyards, owned vineyards, and crafted wines for a variety of respected labels throughout the region. Today, that deep connection to place continues through the next generation. Tomas has recently released the second vintage under his own label, while Esmée has returned from harvest in New Zealand, bringing fresh inspiration and perspective back home to the family winery.

Sinor-LaVallee sources fruit from vineyards throughout the SLO Coast and remains deeply committed to showcasing the people and places that make this region so special. That same coastal spirit carries into their tasting room in Avila Beach, where guests can slow down and enjoy wines alongside fresh local oysters from Morro Bay Oyster Company, seasonal beach bites, and the laid-back energy of the Central Coast. It’s a space built around community, hospitality, and celebrating the incredible ingredients and growers of the region.

Happy International Chardonnay Day! 🥂

Fog-cooled, ocean-influenced, and grown on some of the oldest vines in the Edna Valley — our Chardonnay is bright, complex, and unlike anything made in warmer California regions.

Meet a few of the SLO Coast Chardonnays:

— One of the original shapers of Edna Valley winemaking, crafting cool-climate Chardonnay with graceful elegance for over 35 years.

— Small batch, handcrafted, and made with a deep love for the land.

— Student-grown, student-crafted, and a testament to what this region can teach the next generation of winemakers.

— Estate-only, labor-intensive, and uncompromising. Only the finest lots make the cut.

— Decades of experience in Edna Valley soil, producing Chardonnays of intense flavor and impeccable balance.

— Rooted in the traditions of Burgundy and Champagne, crafting refined coastal Chardonnay since 1982.

— 100% estate grown, LEED certified winery, and a Chardonnay that speaks to the heart of Jespersen Ranch.

— Ultra-limited, single-vineyard Chardonnay from their estate in Avila Beach with an ocean view. Lean, structured, alive.

— Small production for over 20 years, sourcing from the finest Central Coast vineyards with unwavering commitment to terroir.

— Six vineyard sites, a family farming legacy dating to 1948, and some of the most distinctive estate Chardonnays on the SLO Coast.

— Cool northwest winds, diverse soils, and Chardonnays of nuanced character from the heart of Edna Valley.

— Home to the oldest producing Chardonnay vines in the Edna Valley — 45+ year old vines with roots deep enough to tell the whole story.

Enjoy a glass of SLO Coast Chardonnay this weekend!

Winery of the Week:

Planted in 1880. Abandoned after Prohibition. Rediscovered by a dreamer with a pick and a shovel in 1974.

Saucelito Canyon is one of the SLO Coast's most remarkable stories — and one of its most distinctive wines. Tucked deep into the canyon east of Arroyo Grande, their estate Zinfandel vines are among the oldest on the Central Coast. In a region defined by Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, that makes them truly one of a kind.

Two generations of the Greenough family are now carrying that legacy forward, crafting limited-production wines rooted in a vineyard that was nearly lost to history.

🌹 This Sunday, treat Mom to something special: Saucelito Canyon is hosting Mother's Day Boards & Bottles in the tasting room — sweet and savory brunch boards meant to be shared and expertly paired with your choice of bottle. Reserve your spot at the link in their bio!

This week's Winery of the Week:

Jean-Pierre and Elke Wolff took over what is now Wolff Vineyards in 1999, and today it's a true family operation — from vineyard to tasting room. Their philosophy is simple: wine is made in the vineyard. Minimal intervention. Maximum terroir.

Today the vineyard includes 53 acres of Chardonnay, 34 acres of Pinot Noir, 14 acres of planted Teroldego, Syrah, Petite Sirah and Riesling.

And the experience matches the wines. This is a place built for slowing down — vineyard views, good company, and a glass of something real. No reservations needed for groups under 6. Just show up. Open daily 11am–5pm.

This May, their monthly afternoon concert series Third Saturday at Wolff kicks off — and in June, Sunset in the Vineyard returns for summer evenings under the Edna Valley sky.

Our next Winery of the Week: 🍇

There's only one winery and distillery on the entire SLO Coast. And it's right here on Edna Road.

Autry Cellars is unlike anything else in the AVA — a boutique winery where Pinot Noir and Chardonnay share the spotlight with handcrafted brandy and grappa.

Behind it all is Steve Autry, jazz musician, aerospace researcher, scientist, and since 2001, full-time artisan winemaker and distiller. That rare combination of artistic instinct and scientific precision shows in every bottle he produces. The wines are bold and vibrant, sourced from Edna Valley and Paso Robles. The brandy and grappa? A sensory experience you won't find anywhere else on the Central Coast.

More often than not it's Steve himself at the tasting table, walking you through everything — the wines, the spirits, the stories. Intimate, personal, and completely worth your afternoon.

Walk-ins welcome. Open Tuesday–Saturday 11am–5pm, Sunday 11am–4pm.
📍5450 Edna Rd, San Luis Obispo.

Happy Earth Day from the SLO Coast. 🌿

This region was shaped by the Pacific — the fog, the wind, the ocean air, the ancient soils of fossilized shells and shale. Farming here means working with nature, not against it. And the wineries of the SLO Coast take that responsibility seriously.

Swipe to see what sustainable winegrowing really looks like in one of California's most distinctive wine regions.
