As we begin a new year, I realized I haven’t formally introduced myself here, and what better time than the start of 2026 to do so.
My name is Abby Emert, and I’m honored to serve as the new Executive Director of the Community Foundation for Independence. I’m a longtime Independence resident and have spent more than 15 years working in marketing, compliance, and community engagement. Throughout my career, I’ve partnered with local businesses, nonprofits, and schools to strengthen communication, build meaningful relationships, and help initiatives succeed. I have a wonderful husband, who was born and raised in Independence, and I’m a proud mom to two amazing little boys. This community is truly home for our family.
Since stepping into this role at the end of August, we’ve been focused on listening, learning, and laying a strong foundation for the future. Much of our work so far has happened behind the scenes, reviewing processes, strengthening systems, reconnecting with partners, and thoughtfully planning for sustainable growth. This intentional groundwork is helping position CFFI to better serve our donors, nonprofit partners, and the community as a whole. I’m deeply invested in the future of Independence; this is my home. I’m passionate about helping CFFI grow its impact, support local causes, and continue to be a trusted resource for community giving.
As we move forward into 2026, I’m excited about the opportunities ahead and grateful for the continued support, collaboration, and belief in the work we do together.
Here’s to a new year and a strong future for our community. 💙
