Hey everyone! IT’S VOTING TIME!!!
*Please share*
Just wanted to shout and let you all know the polls are finally open to vote on your favorite business duck for the Pomme de Terre Business Duck Race!!
I spent a good amount of time, thought and effort creating my duck for Feathers Only Taxidermy, and would be honored to have your vote!
The theme was patriotic for the 250th anniversary of our country’s independence.
I painted the Betsy Ross 1776 union on the chest of my duck, hand made the revolutionary war era Tricorn hat out of a piece of felt, and pinned a miniature exact copy of the Declaration of Independence to the hat.
Of course I needed to represent our nations American flag, so I chose to do a waving pattern of red and white stripes, in a way only a duck taxidermist would. I hand placed and glued red and white feathers to represent the stripes of our flag, and covered the wings in blue feathers with a few white wooden stars to symbolize the union!
On his back, I added a few more blue feathers for color, surrounding my business sticker.
Added a few streamers for a tail and topped him off with fluffy white feathers to represent the long white hair of some generals at that time.
The winner of the voting competition will win $250. The winner of the actual business duck race i believe will be $750.
As crazy as it sounds, and as much as I would love my duck to win the race, I would be even more happy to win the vote for the best duck. To me, that’s where the honor is.
Voting opened at noon on September 1st and will close at midnight September 13th!
I added a few pictures of my duck in the comments because it wouldn’t let me post them to this link post.
If you’ll click on the posted image, it should take you to the voting poll.
When you get there, if you type Feathers Only in the search bar and hit send, it will quickly take you to my duck. Click the heart to vote and it will ask for your name under guest. That way they can keep track of votes.
Thank you to everyone and sorry for the long post.
Please join me at Pomme de Terre Dam at 1pm this Saturday, September 5th for the duck races and get yourself some tickets for the smaller ducks race. I believe at this point, the winner will win at least $1900 and the pot is still growing.

Vote for your favorite Business Duck!Click on an image to view it larger.

Why is bird taxidermy priced the way it is?
This is one reason.
Imagine cleaning something as fragile as toilet paper with a wire wheel on a motor. Now add some lovely fat and grease… 🤢
Oh ya and the toilet paper, make sure you shoot it with a shotgun first, then try not to tear it anymore with the wire wheel. 😂

Friend of mine owns a great gun store in Springfield Mo. If you’re looking for anything fi****ms related in the Springfield area, I highly suggest you drop in and check his place out!
I was in there one day and he asked if I could make something out of feather art for his wall. He said just come up with something cool.
Well, this is what I came up with.
Metal cutout of his store logo. Misted with an off white paint to resemble white gun smoke and help the image pop a little. Underneath is my turkey feather art. Back feathers under the word “guns” and lower breast feathers under 417 with middle breast feathers under the crosshairs. Then wrapped in a frame I built from poplar wood and black stain.
I thought it turned out pretty cool and wanted to share.
Thank you Russell Henry Reel for asking me to display something for your gun shop, and Bob Jeffery for the metal work.

Had a few of these ghost hangers made with my logo design.
If you don’t know what a ghost hanger is, it’s a simple keyhole style metal hanger with a galvanized rod coming out of the wall to secure a flying duck. This is done to present a clean flying mount without adding the extras of driftwood to hold the duck. (Because sometimes too much “extras” will take away from the specific piece you want to display.)
I had the idea to incorporate my logo this way for a while now and here it is. So if you see this style hanger, it’s likely a mount I did. (I will also likely paint these flat black.)
Hopefully my welding clients don’t laugh too loud at me. I’ve never claimed to have the welding art lol.
Now I need to get some practice in, so I can get these rods tacked on.

Wanted to thank everyone for another wonderful turkey season, and for putting your trust in me to help you preserve a lasting memory. I truly appreciate you all.

Now it’s on to another time involved large diamond feather frame! After this I’ll be back to doing more lifesize turkeys and some ducks I need to get done! Stay tuned!! 😃 ♦️ 🦃
