250 years ago, the country was an idea held together by militia.

Farmers and tradesmen with their own weapons, no standing army, no guarantee of victory. They didn't wait for someone else to show up. They were someone else showing up.

The line from Lexington to today's veterans is unbroken. The people who kept this country are different in every era except one thing — they volunteered to pay a cost the rest of us didn't.

The DAV serves the ones still carrying that cost. We run for them on Veterans Day — November 11.

Last year our team ranked 8th out of 114 teams in the DAV 5K. We raised $1,075. The entire team sent zero donor emails.

We're running an actual campaign in 2026.

Virtual race. Veterans Day Weekend. November 7-11. Run from anywhere in the country.

This one means something.

On Sunday, July 12, first responders across Steuben & Schuyler County are taking on the Beyond the Call trail challenge. Every mile raises money for a first responder wellness center, built for the people who show up when the rest of us can't.

We were asked to craft the challenge coin for the event. The rescue scene sits on the front. The seven disciplines that answer the call sit on the back: corrections, dispatch, EMS, nursing, firefighting, law enforcement, military. No one fights alone.

Proud to have a hand in this one. If you're in the area, go support it.

250 years ago a group of people signed their names to a document that could have gotten them hanged.

That is the original challenge coin energy. Put your name on the thing. Stand behind it. Accept the consequences.

At Ice Station Zebra we make coins for the people who still operate that way. The ones who earn their symbols instead of buying them off a shelf. This Fourth marks 250 years of a country built by exactly those people.
