The new Foot balm for guinea pigs is being released soon! Guinea pigs are such delicate creatures who can easily be negatively effected by certain ingredients. Guinea pigs cannot have aloe which is commonly found in spa products that are for guinea pigs. Aloe is toxic! Coconut oil also a big one found in many products and sadly recommended among groups but it clog pores so the dirt gets locked into and the skin cannot breathe. Coconut oil is very bad! Also, there is a huge percentage of guinea pigs that are allergic to coconut oil! We are proud to say coconut oil is never a ingredient in our products!!!

This is what is in our new foot balm! We carefully selected the ingredients to make a safe effective balm for your piggies feet!! This can be used daily and is best paired with our lavender foot soak!

The preservative we used is a clear liquid called Germaben. Germaben is use to inhibit microbial, yeast and mold growth. Balanced with boasting broad-spectrum protection. Germaben is effective at very low doses, alittle goes a long way! Germaben is a natural preservative that is found naturally in some fruits and plants. Germaben is a common preservative used in food!

Shea butter- Obtained from the nut of African tree vitellaria paradoxa, naturally rich in vitamin A & E. Shea butter is rich in fats that make it an excellent emollient and skin moisturizing agent. The oils is Shea butter gets quickly absorbed into skin, creating a smooth and soft Barrier that seals in moisture. Research has proven that Shea butter has anti-inflammatory properties, it reduces redness of dry cracked feet. Shea butter calms the irritated skin, relieving walking discomfort for sore, red piggie feet. Research has proven that Shea butter possesses anti-microbial properties, it inhibits various strains of bacteria including staphylococcus aureus the number one bacteria that causes pododermatitis (bumble foot) also inhibits some species of fungi that causes ringworm. Shea butter helps to keep piggies feet free from infection and complications.

Jojoba
While jojoba is labeled as an oil, it is actually a wax ester that mimics sebum, which is a guinea pigs natural oil production. Guinea pigs need a certain amount of natural oil to keep skin hydrated, smooth, and protected from drying out. Think all the people who scream “don’t use that it strips them of their natural oil” or “Don’t use it will dry them out!” The jojoba helps keep the guinea pigs natural oil in balance. Jojoba is light, gentle, non-toxic, and will not clog guinea pig pores nor will it dry out their skin! Dermatological research discovered that the jojoba wax ester was non-allergenic, has anti-fungal and anti-inflammatory properties. The healing effects of jojoba is a first class remedy for dry or cracked skin on delicate guinea pig feet. Jojoba is a first line of defense against fungus causing bumble foot!

Bees wax
Thanks to its anti-bacterial agents, bees wax has a long history of being used for certain skin issues in all species!! This has including treating burns and wounds. Studies even found that bees wax was far superior to the management of sensitive skin than other products with synthetic ingredients! Natural products minimize the chances of skin irritation while still providing soothing benefits. Bees wax doesn’t dissolve in water. It seals and locks in moisture. Bees wax is an effective occlusion which means that it can create a protective layer on the skin. Perfect for piggies who love to sit in their own pee/poo. Bees wax is also known for anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties. It calms skin without clogging pores.
• There are people who are raising bees and selling honey and bees wax ethically and sustainably without destroying the colonies of bees. Bees are important to our survival so making sure piggie potions does it’s part we only get our bees wax from a small, very small family owned business located in Hickory Pennsylvania. They take lots of care into their colonies and collect honey and bees wax without hurting a single bee!!

Calendula-
Calendula oil is distilled from the flower tops of marigold and has anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties that are beneficial to guinea pigs and their feet! Due to its antiseptic and anti-inflammatory activity, it helps heal the skin from urine scald and regenerates new skin cells. Calendula contains five compounds- oleanic acid, lupeol, quercetin, A amyrin and B amyrin. These compounds have been studied and know to provide antioxidant protection, soothe skin and reduce discomfort.

Neem oil
Comes from the seed of the neem tree. Neem oil contains many fatty acids and antioxidants. Neem has anti-inflammatory, strong anti-fungal, anti-bacterial properties. The environmental protection agency (EPA) note that Neem oil contains azadirachtin, a natural pesticide. It has proven to kill Gliricola porcelli, the type of lice you find on your guinea pig. It effectively kills at all stages of development — adult, larvae and egg. Neem oil It is also harmless enough to be used medicinally and as a flavoring in foods. Neem oil is known to speed up the healing process as well as improve scarring.

Lavender
Painful inflammation can be treated with lavender oil. The oil’s pain-relieving and numbing effects help soothe the inflammation, while the beta-caryophyllene in the oil also acts as a natural anti-inflammatory. Lavender also shows a potent antifungal effect against strains of fungi responsible for common skin infections like ring worm.
