Cybergenetics TrueAllele® technology interprets DNA data from crime scene evidence. Cybergenetics was founded in 1994.

The initial focus was genetics, using computers to automate the interpretation of DNA data for medical diagnosis and gene discovery. Five years later, the company transitioned into forensic analysis, helping to eliminate backlogs and solving the DNA mixture problem. The company’s TrueAllele® technology helped identify victim remains in the World Trade Center disaster. Ten years of continual refinement led to routine use in most of the United States and abroad. Dozens of empirical studies form the basis of TrueAllele’s acceptance as reliable science. In a 2009 conviction, TrueAllele identified a murderer through his victim’s fingernails. In a 2016 exoneration, TrueAllele helped free an innocent man after twenty four years in prison. In hundreds of criminal cases, attorneys and investigators use Cybergenetics "probabilistic" genotyping to find truth in DNA.

FY2026 federal funding is now open for qualifying historical civil-rights homicide investigations.

The Bureau of Justice Assistance's Emmett Till Unsolved Civil Rights Crimes Act Program supports state, local, and tribal law enforcement and local prosecutors investigating qualifying homicides that occurred no later than December 31, 1979.

The program specifically identifies modern forensic approaches including degraded DNA analysis and modern forensic re-examination that may help generate new investigative leads.

When mixed, low-level, degraded, or previously inconclusive DNA is limiting progress in a qualifying historical investigation, Cybergenetics can evaluate existing electronic DNA data and discuss whether TrueAllele® probabilistic genotyping or our forensic services may provide additional investigative information.

FY2026 funding is now open for the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) Prosecuting Cold Cases Using DNA Program.

For prosecutors, investigators, cold-case units, and forensic partners working qualifying violent cold cases, a suspect DNA profile must already have been generated and a prosecuting entity must be fully engaged.

When complex, low-level, degraded, or previously inconclusive DNA is limiting progress, Cybergenetics can evaluate existing electronic DNA data and assess whether advanced DNA interpretation may provide additional information.

With the SEHIA Conference occurring in Tucson, Arizona, we’re highlighting a TrueAllele® case from the state.

In State of Arizona v. Amahri Hudson, 28-year-old Hashim Ellis was fatally shot and stabbed at a Phoenix apartment complex. Investigators recovered a broken knife handle, but the complex DNA mixture was not suitable for comparison.

Using the same DNA data, TrueAllele separated five contributors and connected the evidence to Amahri Hudson with a match statistic of 936 quadrillion.

A Cybergenetics analyst later testified about the DNA results before a Maricopa County jury.
