Every organization goes through seasons of transition. New priorities. Staffing changes. Budget pressures. Uncertainty.

What often gets overlooked is that our nervous systems don't switch gears as quickly as our calendars do.

One of the messages I shared during a recent keynote for Magee-Womens Research Institute & Foundation was this:

Your nervous system still needs help arriving.

Emotional sustainability isn't just about recovering after stress. It's about recognizing that people need space to adapt while they're living through it.

That's where resilient workplaces begin.

Father's Day can bring joy, gratitude, celebration and for some, grief, longing, and loss.

At Vitamin C Healing, we recognize that days centered around family can stir a wide range of emotions.

Today, we hold space for those missing their father, grieving a child, navigating estrangement, experiencing infertility, or carrying losses that others may not see.

Whatever today brings for you, may you offer yourself the same compassion you so freely extend to others.

You are not alone. You are seen. 💚

Recently, I had the opportunity to share more about my journey, the evolution of Vitamin C Healing, and the experiences that shaped my work around compassion fatigue, burnout prevention, and leadership sustainability.

Grateful for the opportunity to reflect on where I've been and where this work is headed.

Compassion fatigue isn't just a personal issue. It's a workplace issue.

One of the things I appreciate most about this feedback isn't the compliment. It's the realization that compassion fatigue deserves a place in conversations about workplace culture, staff wellbeing, retention, and sustainability.

Helping professionals, legal professionals, healthcare workers, social workers, educators, and leaders often carry more than people realize.

When organizations create space to acknowledge that reality, meaningful conversations and change can begin.

Thank you to Summit Legal Aid for trusting me to facilitate this important conversation with your team.

If your organization is looking to support staff wellbeing, prevent burnout, or create a healthier workplace culture, I'd love to connect.

One of the hardest parts of workplace change is that people rarely respond only to the facts.

They respond to uncertainty.
They respond to past experiences.
They respond to unanswered questions.
They respond to the stories they create when information is limited.

Whether it's a leadership transition, restructuring, budget concerns, staffing changes, or shifting priorities, uncertainty often creates more stress than the change itself.

That's why communication matters.

Not because leaders have all the answers, but because people need something more reliable than their assumptions.

What have you found most helpful when navigating change in the workplace?

What exactly is Vitamin C Healing?

It's a question I get asked more often than you might think.

Some people know us for compassion fatigue training. Others know us for workplace wellness workshops, leadership development, reflective supervision, or our Take a Pause meditation programs.

Vitamin C Healing was created to help people and organizations build healthier, more sustainable ways of working and living.

Over the years, that has looked different depending on the need.

Sometimes it means facilitating a keynote or workshop for hundreds of employees. Sometimes it means helping leaders navigate burnout, change, and the challenges that come with supporting others. Sometimes it means providing reflective supervision or consulting with organizations about workplace culture. And sometimes it means working one-on-one with helping professionals who have lost themselves in the work and are trying to find their way back.

At the heart of it all is the same belief: People can do meaningful work without sacrificing themselves in the process.

That's why we talk about burnout, compassion fatigue, boundaries, workplace stress, leadership wellbeing, and creating cultures where people can thrive; not just survive.

Healthy organizations don't happen by accident.
They happen when we intentionally invest in the wellbeing of the people who make the work possible.
That's the work.
That's Vitamin C Healing.

Everybody keeps talking about burnout like it’s only about workload.

But sometimes burnout is also the result of never slowing down long enough for your nervous system to recover.

Back-to-back meetings.
Constant notifications.
Emotional pressure.
Decision fatigue.
Always being “on.”

And somewhere in the middle of all that… many people stop pausing altogether.

So this is your reminder today:
That task will still be there.
That email will still be there.
That meeting will still be there.

Take the Pause, fam.

Not because the work isn’t important…
but because you are too.

As Mental Health Awareness Month comes to a close, we're reflecting on something we see across many workplaces:

We often talk about mental health as an individual responsibility. Self-care. Resilience. Stress management.

While those things matter, employee wellbeing is also influenced by workload, staffing, leadership support, workplace culture, psychological safety, and the ability to take meaningful breaks.

Awareness is important. But awareness alone doesn't create healthy workplaces.

Organizations that want to support mental health must also be willing to examine the conditions that contribute to burnout, compassion fatigue, chronic stress, and disengagement.

We'd love to hear from you:
What workplace factor do you believe has the greatest impact on employee mental health?

After a week full of leading Take a Pause meditation sessions and reflective supervision conversations, one thing became very clear to me:

A lot of workplaces are filled with people functioning in constant activation mode.

Meeting after meeting.
Crisis after crisis.
Emails.
Pressure.
Rapid decisions.
Emotional labor.

And many helping professionals and leaders have gotten so used to pushing through that they barely notice how disconnected they are from themselves throughout the day.

Honestly, some nervous systems are exhausted while people are still saying,
“I’m fine. Just busy.”

Something I keep reflecting on is this:

There’s a difference between pushing yourself and supporting yourself.

And many high-capacity people were taught how to endure… but not necessarily how to pause.

Not every reset has to be a vacation or a day off.

Sometimes support looks like:
Taking one full breath before the next meeting.
Stepping outside for a few minutes.
Stretching between appointments.
Drinking water slowly instead of multitasking through it.
Giving yourself a moment to reset after difficult conversations instead of immediately jumping into the next demand.

Micro pauses matter.

Because our nervous systems were never designed to stay activated all day long.
