We capped off an amazing week of Building Science Principles (BSP) training in Homewood with a successful Career Awareness event! Pittsburgh Gateways brought together job seekers and career explorers to connect directly with leaders in the residential construction and affordable housing industries.

One of the ways we address the housing crisis is by creating a bigger & better workforce. 👷👷👷‍♀️

After completing their Building Performance Institute, Inc. (BPI) BSP exam that morning, industry professionals stayed for a catered lunch and then shared their personal career journey with those who may want to help build and renovate homes. These career explorers also got to see a blower door test demonstration and begin to make the connection between energy efficiency, construction quality, and the total cost of home ownership.

Providing these networking spaces gives individuals the resource pipeline they need to launch sustainable careers right in their own communities. Take a look at some of our favorite moments from Thursday afternoon!📸

Last Friday, we celebrated the commencement ceremony for our Introduction to the Construction Trades Pre-Apprenticeship Training Program. This milestone, at the Energy Innovation Center, marked the graduation of 16 determined participants.

Having successfully completed their rigorous pre-apprenticeship training, these graduates are fully equipped to begin sustainable, high-growth careers in our local building trade unions.

By connecting individuals to specialized training and critical resource networks, Pittsburgh Gateways continues its mission to strengthen economic development and create viable career pipelines across our communities. Congratulations to the upcoming graduating class!

What an incredible week of skill-building in Homewood! 🧱✨

Pittsburgh Gateways Corporation just completed a specialized Building Science Training week for local professionals. By expanding building science knowledge and supporting small business owners, our goal is to:

• Improve construction quality
• Reduce energy burdens
• Lower the total cost of home ownership
for all community members, especially income-limited residents throughout Western PA.

It was a pleasure to welcome Allegheny County Government Executive, Sara innamorato, for signing of the ACT NOW Executive Order at the Energy Innovation Center.✒️🏛️

Pittsburgh Gateways CEO and President Don Evans welcomed the group with opening remarks, highlighting the legacy of the historic Connelley Trade School and its transformation into a premier hub for regional research, development, and advanced energy innovation.

We were also proud to have EIC tenant CorePower Magnetics represented on the Building Regional Capacity & Coordination panel by Matt Glodowski, President - Alloys & Materials.

Now, the county is launching its final phase of public engagement, and your voice is needed to shape the future of sustainable infrastructure across our communities!🎉

We had an absolute blast attending the Pennsylvania Solar Center's 5th Annual Solar Soiree, located at the Energy Innovation Center.🌞 More than just a fantastic evening of networking and policy updates, this annual event serves a vital purpose: raising critical funds to expand sustainable energy access and infrastructure across western Pennsylvania.

For Pittsburgh Gateways Corporation, the evening was doubly special. We were incredibly honored to receive the Lodestar Award, a recognition given to graduates of the GET Solar program who are actively leading the region by integrating solar technology into their operations.🏆

The night concluded on the roof of the Energy Innovation Center, where attendees took a firsthand tour of our newly unveiled 291-kilowatt rooftop solar array. Projects like these prove that environmental responsibility and local economic growth go hand in hand.

Thank you to the Pennsylvania Solar Center for an inspiring event, and congratulations to our fellow award winners, Neighborhood North Museum of Play and Whitehall Borough, for their commitment to our community's future.

Taking place right in Homewood at the Penn College at Pittsburgh Building Performance Lab, this workforce training initiative is bridging a critical skills gap in our region.👏
