Adding plants to your yard or garden this spring? Choose native plants!

Native plants create beautiful landscapes that provide native wildlife with the diverse habitat and food they need to survive.

They also are adapted to local soils, climate, and conditions and will persist through frost and drought.

Some state parks are having native plant sales this spring:

Hazelwood Green Riverfront Master Plan Community Collaboration Event Oct. 15-17

A vision and master plan are currently being developed for the riverfront at Hazelwood Green. This includes a 1.3-mile stretch of riverfront from Hazelwood Avenue to the Hot Metal Bridge. The riverfront offers a place to relax and explore, great views of the water and downtown Pittsburgh, and industrial structures that can help tell the story of Hazelwood’s past.
Hearing from area residents is an important part of the process. Would you like to see a play area? A plaza? Pavilions? More trails? Something else?
Attend this week’s Hazelwood Green Riverfront Master Plan Community Collaboration Event to share your ideas. The event is taking place over a 3-day period from Oct. 15-17. There’s a Neighborhood Pop-Up with oral histories being collected, a Community Social, a Public Preview of design concepts, and more. Attend those portions that best fit your schedule!
Advanced registration is required to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. Register online here https://www.eventbrite.com/o/cycle-forward-for-hazelwood-green-riverfront-8405478343 or by phone at (412) 918-6563.
Can’t make the event but want to weigh in? Take the Neighborhood https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/HGR_Neighborhood_Survey or City-Wide Survey https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/HGR_City_Survey so that your input is received!

EPD’s Katie Kovalchik presented alongside Mary Ellen Ramage of the Borough of Etna and Rebecca Denlinger of Columbia Borough to speak on “Lost Spaces: Untapped Opportunities for Placemaking” at the PA Greenways and Trails Summit this year.

Today at the Pa Greenways 2019 Conference got to present on the awesome Etna Riverfront Trail and Park project! From the Dougherty Nature Trail Project completed in 2009, to ownership of the riverfront property in 2014 to groundbreaking this past June, Etna got to share our story of the greening of our community! There were many trail groups here and the question asked most was How did the elected officials feel about this work? Proud to share their leadership and support of these projects to get us on this road!! Population 3400 , small but mighty !
