We sealed the crown with CrownCoat to stop water from getting in. Then we installed a new 3 inch liner for the hot water tank to fix the venting.

A chimney problem doesn't always start inside the house... sometimes it starts at the top.

During an inspection, we found a severely deteriorated chimney crown. The crown is a concrete layer that seals the top of the chimney and protects the masonry below from rain, snow, and freeze/thaw damage. When it cracks or breaks down, water can easily enter the chimney system.
