October 26, 2024 was a great day! It was a very important day when descendants of members of the Nomini Hall Enslaved and Free Community, and guests of the Northern Neck of Virginia Historical Society, gathered in memory of members of the Nomini Hall Community and those buried in Old Quarters Cemetery, and in honor of the descendants of the Nomini Hall Enslaved Community freed by the 1791 Deed of Gift by Robert Carter III, Nomini Hall, Westmoreland County, Virginia.
We were delighted to host VIP Guest Speaker Dallas Henderson, descendant of Samual and Judith Harrison, both manumitted in 1793 by the 1791 Deed of Gift by Robert Carter III.
Samuel Harrison, b. 1740, served Robert Carter III as a waiter, valet, and barber. Judith Harrison, b. 1744, served Robert Carter III and his family as a house maid.
