80 YEARS AGO TODAY - 1936 PITTSBURGH FLOOD - The water reached the top window in this photograph. You can see the point of the city in the background. Hard to imagine that our ENTIRE current studio was completely UNDER WATER!! Wow...

As many of you already know, Nick recently passed away and we are all left with very heavy hearts. It would take a book to cover all his accomplishments but the Post Gazette does a very nice write up:

We just completed a job in Butler restoring a good deal of Boos glass. Let's hope the church can remain a beacon for the community that it has been.

Conservation is pretty time-consuming work. For a full restoration, each piece of glass has to individually cleaned and repaired. This is no easy task when you consider how much build up we see on some of the windows that come through the studio.

We came across this article today about Herbet H. Davis, one of our most notable stained glass designers, from the 1930s:

When your studio has been around for over a century, you never know what you'll come across when you start digging into its history.

We came across this going through some studio books recently. Henry Hunt founded our studio in 1906 after immigrating to Pittsburgh from London by way of Boston. Judging by the iconography, there's a little of all of those places present in this label!
