The Green Gold of El Dorado County 🌿⛏️
Did you know a tiny succulent saved the 49ers? Before El Dorado was known for wine, it was known for Miner’s Lettuce, literally the “original superfood” of the Sierra Foothills! 
When the Gold Rush hit Sutter’s Mill, miners were living on salted pork and crackers—a recipe for scurvy. They learned from the local Nisenan Maidu people that this native green was a Vitamin C powerhouse. We have it growing under our oaks and cedars at Narrow Gate. Try substituting Miner’s Lettuce for basil when making your next pesto drizzled over burrata. Have you spotted any lately?
