This week on top of plowing out from the snopocalypse and dealing with sub zero temps I still managed to wrap up this massive Stewart oak #290 by the Fuller & Warren co.
Back in September the owner dropped 2 off from NY state for restoration, one was in far better condition than the other but still required both to make 1 good one.
They were both missing the swing top and finials, so I dug one from my inventory, a new hand made barrel was fabricated (with the new Antique Stove Hospitals oil base stove polish) 9 new mica windows installed, and new ash pan, and now its ready for the owner to come pick it up.

The owners would like to burn coal in this however the grates were un salvagable so a simple wood grate is installed for now, if I have any followers with a Stewart #290 or a Splended oak 111, I would love to rent the grates for recasting to complete this impressive coal burner.

-12 here in middle New Hampshire this morning, the Glenwood Home Grand in the shop chugged through the night with a nice bed of coals to work with this morning using only 4 pieces of 20" hardwood.

When I got here at 730 the shop/showroom (1840s barn) was 50* 40 minutes later its 68* again.

Here's a few pictures demonstrating the heat differential between the cooking surface and the stove pipe.

Roughly a 650 degree difference from the hottest part to the coolest part, the stove literally absorbing all but the necessary heat to maintain draft and transferring it to the room for heating while maintaining a 400 degree oven temp for baking

The New England stove manufacturers had these figired out for maximum efficiency on both wood and coal long before the advent of insulation.

There are very few stoves made after world war 2 that will survive 128 years and still preform how they were intended when new.
