LanSource Cyber Security Tip: Use a password manager

If you’re still reusing passwords, it’s one of the easiest ways for your accounts to get compromised.

A password manager fixes that.

It creates strong, unique passwords for every account and stores them securely so you don’t have to remember them.

No more:
❌ “Password123”
❌ Sticky notes
❌ Reusing the same login everywhere

If you’re not using a password manager yet, here are a few good options:
- 1Password
- Bitwarden
- Dashlane

It’s a simple change that can make a big difference.

Hackers don’t need you to mess up. They just need you to move fast.

This time of year, most days look exactly like that. Summer schedules shift. People are in and out on vacation. Work happens between meetings, from home, and with more distractions than usual.

An email comes in. It looks fine. You act on it. That’s the opening. Not because anything went wrong, but because everything is moving a little faster than usual.

We’ve put together a quick read on why these moments matter more than obvious mistakes and what protects your business when things are moving at full speed.

Know someone who’s been flying through their inbox lately? This is worth sending to them.

You don’t need to slow everything down. You just need to make sure one fast click doesn’t go further than it should. Schedule a 10-minute call and we’ll show you how.

Read it below:

School’s out, which means for many people the workday doesn’t look quite the same as it did a few weeks ago. Maybe you’re starting earlier so you can wrap up sooner. Maybe you’re working from home...

Your security is only as strong as your weakest vendor.

✅ You locked down your systems.
✅ You trained your team.
✅ You have MFA on everything.

But what about: ❓ Your email marketing platform ❓ Your cloud backup provider ❓ That random app Karen from accounting swears is "really helpful" ❓ The third-party tool with access to ALL your client data

One of the biggest breaches in recent years didn't happen because the company got hacked. It happened because their EMAIL VENDOR got hacked.

Questions to ask BEFORE giving a vendor access:

What data do they really need?
What are THEIR security standards?
What happens if they get breached?
Can we limit their access to only what's necessary?

You can't control their security. But you CAN control who you trust with your data.

Not sure which vendors have access to what? Let's audit it together. Call 972-612-1690 for a free discovery call.

If you're only using passwords to protect your accounts, you're leaving the door wide open.

Here's the reality: Passwords get stolen. They get phished. They get cracked. It happens every single day to businesses just like yours.

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) stops hackers even when they have your password.

Think of it like your house: A password is the lock on your door. MFA is the deadbolt, the alarm system and the security camera combined.

Even if someone steals your key (password), they still can't get in without the second factor — usually a code sent to your phone or generated by an app.

The data is clear: MFA blocks 99.9% of automated attacks.

Enable it on everything: E-mail, banking, cloud apps, social media, your business systems — all of it.

Yes, it adds an extra 10 seconds to log in. But it could save you from a breach that costs thousands (or millions) and destroys your reputation.

10 seconds of inconvenience vs. months of recovery. Easy choice.

Yesterday LanSource proudly celebrated Andrew Fry's four year anniversary with the company.

Andrew is one our full-time remote service engineers, and brings a strong technical mind to our team. For years, he worked full-time on-site at a client before his relocation.

We are thankful that we were able to continue working with Andrew, as he is an awesome part of the LanSource family.

Andrew - thank you for four great years, and we look forward to many more years together.

Your browser isn’t meant to hold 42+ open tabs. It slows everything down.
Do this instead:

Right-click → “Add Tab to Group” (Chrome/Edge)

Create groups like: “Clients,” “Finance,” “To-Read”

Close the whole group when done.

You get the efficiency of organization without losing anything.

Cybercriminals don’t wait for weaknesses. They wait for silence. And long weekends are very quiet.

According to Semperis’s 2025 Ransomware Holiday Risk Report, 52% of ransomware attacks happen on a holiday or weekend. That’s not random. It’s deliberate.

Attackers aren’t trying to break in when you’re busy. They’re waiting for the window when no one’s watching and no one’s responding.

That’s the gap — a proactive attacker on one side and a reactive “call us if something breaks” approach on the other.

Our new blog post breaks down what’s happening during that window and how to close it before the next long weekend.

If you know another business leader heading into a long weekend with no one watching, share this blog with them.

If you’re not sure if your systems are protected after hours, schedule a 10-minute discovery call and we’ll take a look.

If your email keeps kicking you out, it’s not haunted.
It’s usually one of these:

1️⃣ Your password got changed on another device
2️⃣ Your security settings require re-authentication
3️⃣ Your browser is auto-clearing cookies
4️⃣ Another device is signed in and timing you out
5️⃣ You ignored an update (your browser’s begging for one)

The fix?

Update. Clear cache (not cookies).

And turn on MFA so your account stops freaking out.

💡 Save + send this to someone who’s texted “UGH my email logged me out AGAIN.”

LanSource Cyber Security Tip: REMOVE these from your laptop, tablet or smartphone

Like it or not, device manufacturers LOVE to fill your brand-new PC, tablet or phone full of “free” applications like games, music and photo apps and more (manufacturers actually get paid to install these with the devices they sell).

But outdated apps are a breeding ground for vulnerabilities, so if you’re not using a particular application on a regular basis, it’s best to REMOVE it completely. This is also why we source and set up all workstations and PCs for our clients – we actually remove the junk and configure the security setup so it’s ready to go.

If you haven’t done so, go through your phone, laptop and other devices and uninstall applications you’re not using. Need help? Give us a call.
