Meeting someone's kids gives me a glimpse into what kind of person they are when no one's watching. Kids don't disguise their true selves; they don't care about first impressions on adults.
Recently, I was talking to a client going through IV treatment to have their first child. I shared that kids reflect the quality of their parents' guidance. You can work hard to provide financially, but if you don't discipline and teach them manners, all that money is wasted.
Good parenting requires daily investment of time. Before owning a ranch, I took my sons to new places every weekend to ride ATVs. Sure, ATVs hurt my back (getting old, lol!), but the fun, exploration, and priceless moments we share make it worth the pain.
The long truck rides are filled with audiobooks and meaningful conversations that otherwise wouldn’t happen. People always compliment my kids when they meet them.
The other night, I took Jax to meet two Blue Collar Baller speakers at Jerry Jones' club for dinner. Most parents would dread bringing a kid to such a fancy event, but Jax was welcomed and engaged in real conversations with Brandon and Josh.
The lesson here is simple: if you want great kids, be a great parent. Invest time teaching them to be better than average and how to act properly. The future is in our kids' hands, and we can't let YouTube and iPads raise them. It’s a trap!
As parents, it’s our job to raise our kids, not let technology do it. Because I promise you, technology will raise them wrong.
