2022 continues it's challenges. The Lunar New Year has passed and China factories are open again however there are still supply chain issues similar to what's happening everywhere.

In addition, SanDisk confirmed that two of their production plants rendered 6.3 Exabytes of flash chips unusable. That's a loss of nearly 25% of their annual production! This is already resulting in higher cost for chips which will certainly continue to go up as the shortage begins to be felt by those who use the chips.

Bottom line, buy early, expect to pay more, and have an alternative in mind.

Every year millions of Chinese workers travel from their places of work back to their home towns in what is called the largest annual migration on the planet. Factories close for an extended period to allow folks to return to their families, and it takes some time to ramp production back up once work has resumed.

This holiday follows a lunar calendar so it floats and in 2022 it comes early in the year. Here are some important dates:

Last orders to factories by: January 17, 2022

Last shipments to customers: January 25, 2022

Factories closed starting: January 27, 2022

Chinese New Year: Year of the Tiger begins February 1, 2022

Factories reopen on: February 9, 2022

The shortages in the supply chain continue. We've been told that media we'd expected delivery on weeks ago won't be available for a couple of months from now. This is effecting everyone. We are doing our best to meet your needs and thank you for your understanding as the entire world tries to recover from these massive shut downs.

As you are planning your 2022 needs please keep the January 19, 2022 date in mind. This is the last day we can place an order before the Chinese New Year shut down. This is super important if you're going to be needing product during the shutdown time. Please plan ahead.

Like most companies we are seeing significant shipping delays. For example pallets that used to take 5 days are now taking about 40 days. Orders on things like SD cards and USB drives are also hitting significant delays.

Order now to insure that you have product when you need it.

I know we posted about this a couple of weeks ago but we're going to say it again.

Some products are not available until after the end of the year and the list is growing daily. If you have an expected need we strongly suggest you secure your product now instead of later.

In addition prices are going up on most products. We've seen products made of plastic increase significantly, in some cases they are double what they were just two weeks ago.

Expect the shortage to get worse. This morning some of our manufactures are saying they will not be able to manufacture stock for the rest of the year due to material shortages. Many warehouses are totally empty on several SKU's and low on others. We strongly suggest our customers purchase what stock they will need for the remainder of 2021 soon or be prepared to dramatic price increases and shortages.

We don't want to yell that the sky is falling but we don't want our customers to be stuck when there's no supply either.

As we predicted the price of CDs and DVDs went up $.02 per disc over the weekend. Supplies are still very limited and many SKU's are not available. We expect this shortage to continue and increase through at least August.

Because shipping by boat isn't an option any longer due to the lack of containers and inability to unload in the United States many are switching to air freight. This has already caused air freight to change from a 5 day delivery service to a 35 day delivery service as companies not fight for limited space on the planes.

SD and USB jobs historically travel by plane and until now have not been effected by the transportation backup however that has now changed as they are competing for space on the same plane as all those prior ship loads. Expect to see delays and price increases in SD and USB products as well.

As you are undoubtedly seeing elsewhere, costs of just about everything are going higher. In some cases, much higher. Shipping for example has gone from $2400 a container to $7000 for a container. Plastics are in short supply to the point that many warehouses are out of CDs and DVDs with no expectation of getting more until at least August. Please check with us to see if your disc is still available.

And then there's the chip shortage which effects many electronics including SD cards and USB drives. We just re-quoted a job for a customer that needed a specific chip and our cost went up 229% from last December on that SD card!

Give us a call with your needs and we will help you find what you're looking for or an alternative. If you have a "must-have" project please do not wait to order the items you need. It would be much better to have them a bit early than not be able to find them at all.
