🚒 Sipayik Fire Rescue is committed to giving our community our best every truck, every firefighter, every response!

Our department is conducting pump testing on our trucks an important step in ensuring our equipment meets the highest standards possible.

When someone calls for help, they trust us with their home, their family and sometimes their life. Honoring that trust means doing the work long before an emergency happens. Pump testing helps us evaluate the equipment our firefighters depend on to deliver water when every second matters.

A special thank you to Chief Tony Ramsdell of the Princeton Fire Department for conducting our pump testing. One of the best out there, Chief Ramsdell brings knowledge, dedication and a willingness to help fellow departments grow stronger. We are grateful for his support and the experience he shares.

The people of Sipayik and our surrounding communities deserve dependable equipment, prepared firefighters and a department committed to continual improvement.

Every improvement carries the same purpose protecting our people and bringing our firefighters home safely. ❤️🚒

Lil Ed getting it done! 💪🚒

Lil Ed is now CPR certified! He’ll also be participating in training deemed safe and appropriate by our Safety Officer as he continues learning alongside our crew.

We hope his time at Sipayik Fire Rescue inspires him to pursue a career in the fire service or gives him the skills and confidence to someday save a life.

Every great firefighter starts somewhere. We’re proud to encourage that spark in the next generation. Keep learning and working hard, Lil Ed! 👏

🚒 Forcible Entry Training

Tonight, members of Sipayik Fire Rescue practiced techniques for opening locked doors safely and efficiently during emergencies.

Whether assisting an ambulance crew or responding to a house fire, our goal is to reach those who need us quickly while minimizing unnecessary damage. Even during a fire, protecting your home and property remains a priority.

Training today helps us better serve our community tomorrow.

Today, Sipayik Fire & Rescue attended a Motor Vehicle Extrication Training hosted by the Washington County Firefighters Association.

Our firefighters are always committed to getting as much training and hands-on experience as possible so we can better serve and protect our community if we are ever faced with a situation where these skills are needed. Training like this helps us become more confident, prepared, and effective when every second matters.

A huge thank you to MFSI for allowing not only our firefighters, but firefighters from departments all around the area, to use the tools, equipment, and resources needed to gain valuable hands-on experience.

We would also like to give a special thank you to Sipayik Assistant Chief and Wesley Fire Chief Lee Philbrook and Machiasport Assistant Chief Shannon Laramie for being today’s instructors and sharing their knowledge and experience with us.

Lastly, thank you to Chief Mike Schoppee and Assistant Chief Emily Philbrook for helping make sure everyone stayed safe throughout the training grounds and training exercises.

We are proud to continue learning, growing, and training together so we can be better prepared to serve our community when it matters most.

On September 14, 2026, Sipayik Fire & Rescue held our monthly meeting and training.

Our monthly meetings are about more than just training and department business. They’re about the family we have built here at Sipayik Fire & Rescue — coming together, checking in with one another, sharing a bite to eat, talking, laughing, and enjoying time together. These moments help strengthen the relationships and teamwork that are so important when we have to depend on each other during an emergency.

During this month’s training, we worked on pumping operations and tested one of our new connections for the deck gun. Training like this gives our members the opportunity to become more familiar and confident with our equipment while making sure we know how to use it effectively when it matters most.

Every training gives us a chance to learn something new, sharpen our skills, and identify areas where we can improve. It helps us become better, faster, and stronger as a department while continuing to grow in the many different areas of the job.

At Sipayik Fire & Rescue , we believe that training, teamwork, communication, and brotherhood are what make us stronger. We will continue to train, learn, improve, and push each other forward — not only to become better firefighters and EMS providers, but to better serve and protect the people of Sipayik.

Today, Lieutenant Francis, Firefighter Grimes and Firefighter Newell walked the streets of Sipayik in remembrance of September 11, 2001.

That day, 343 firefighters answered the call and never made it home. Today we walk in their memory, honor their courage and remember their ultimate sacrifice.

🇺🇸 We remember. We honor. We will never forget. 🇺🇸

🔥 Training Put to the Test! 🚒

This weekend a small group of Sipayik firefighters took part in Basic Pumps Training on Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday morning, before we even made it to lunch we received a call for a fire in the woods. Talk about timing we were able to put that pumps training to use the very same day! Thankfully, it was a small fire and our firefighters were able to knock it down quickly and safely.

On Sunday, it was all hands on deck for hands on training at the Sipayik Boat Landing, giving our firefighters more time behind the pumps and building the skills and teamwork we depend on when the call comes in.

A special thank you to our MFSI instructor and Perry Fire Assistant Chief Jay Pearson for taking the time to train and work alongside our department.

Most importantly, thank you to the men and women of the Sipayik Fire Department who continue to show up, train, learn and serve our community. Every hour of training makes our department stronger and our community safer.

Train hard. Work together. Be ready when the call comes. 🚒🔥

Sometimes, seconds make all the difference.

Today, Sipayik Fire Department responded to a water rescue after a sailboat capsized in Passamaquoddy Bay.

Fire Chief Adam Newell was at the fire station performing administrative duties when he received a phone call from Passamaquoddy Tribe CFO Tim Joyce, who was having lunch at Gleason Cove. Tim witnessed the sailboat roll over and immediately reported seeing two people in the water.

At the station, Firefighter Dawson Toney was washing his ATV when the call came in. Drawing on years of experience as a commercial lobster fisherman, Chief Newell knew every second mattered. He and FF Toney immediately went to the boat launch, launched the Chief’s skiff, and headed to the last known location provided by Tim Joyce.

Upon arrival, Chief Newell located both individuals in the water. Thankfully, they were alive and in good condition. After ensuring the victims were safe, Chief Newell secured the capsized sailboat until F/V Diligence, captained by Tyler Francis, arrived on scene. Captain Francis then took over towing the sailboat to shore while Chief Newell and FF Toney safely transported the two survivors back to the dock.

Today’s rescue is a powerful reminder that preparedness, local knowledge, and decisive action save lives.

The Sipayik Fire Department would like to thank Tim Joyce for making the immediate phone call, Captain Tyler Francis for his assistance on the water, and everyone involved in bringing this incident to a safe conclusion.

A special thank you goes to Chief Bassett, who made restoring a paid part-time Fire Chief position one of his top priorities. Investing in emergency services means having leadership available during the day to handle training, inspections, administration, and most importantly being ready to respond when an emergency happens. Today’s incident is an example of why that investment matters.

Today, because people acted without hesitation, two individuals made it home safely. That is what public service is all about.
