Honoring Tech. Sgt. Ian Patterson: A Legacy of Service and Excellence 🖤🇺🇸

The entire RDI Training & Consulting Group family is deeply saddened by the tragic loss of U.S. Air Force Tech. Sgt. Ian Patterson, a devoted husband, father, and stellar leader who passed away this weekend following an accident at the Alamodome in San Antonio.

As an elite Tactical Air Control Party (TACP) instructor with the 6th Combat Training Squadron (Detachment 2) out of JBSA-Camp Bullis, Tech. Sgt. Patterson spent his 15-year career training, preparing, and standing alongside our nation's finest. He wasn't just dedicated to the mission—he was a master of his craft, recognized at the highest levels as the 2022 Air Force Special Warfare Enlisted Instructor of the Year.

In our world of training and consulting, we deeply understand the weight of responsibility borne by instructors who dedicate their lives to building up others. Tech. Sgt. Patterson represented the absolute pinnacle of that commitment.
Our thoughts, prayers, and deepest condolences are with his wife, his children, his fellow Airmen, and the entire military community navigating this profound loss.
Rest in peace, Tech. Sgt. Patterson. Thank you for your leadership, your sacrifice, and your unwavering service to our country. You will never be forgotten. 🕊️

"Valor Delights in the Test."

It's more than a quote.
It's a mindset.

Anyone can be confident when conditions are easy. Anyone can talk about what they would do.

The test is where truth lives.

The hard day.
The difficult shot.
The demanding course.
The moment when excuses no longer matter.

That's where character is revealed.
People of valor don't avoid the test.
They welcome it.

Because they know every challenge is an opportunity to prove themselves—not to others, but to themselves.

That's what the quote means to us.

And if you've been around RDI long enough, you know exactly why.

👀 We may have something coming soon for those who live by that mindset.

Stay tuned.

Violent offenders don't always surrender.

Many choose vehicles as their means of escape, mobility, and resistance.

The TTPOA Violent Offender Vehicle Apprehensions Course focuses on the tactics, coordination, and decision-making required to safely apprehend high-risk offenders in and around vehicles.

Students will develop skills in:

• Vehicle interdiction operations
• Team movement and coordination
• Positional advantage
• Communication under stress
• Occupant control and removal
• High-risk apprehension tactics

This course is designed for patrol officers, tactical teams, warrant units, gang units, and any personnel responsible for taking violent offenders into custody.

📅 September 17–18, 2026
📍 RDI Training Facility – Pleasanton, Texas

When the mission is apprehension, preparation matters.

Every structure tells a story.

The problem is most officers don't know how to read it.

Hallways create problems.
Doorways create problems.
Corners create problems.

The officers who understand structure, terrain, angles, and the likely actions of both suspects and teammates operate differently.

Our CQB Instructor Course is built around those principles.

Students will learn not only how to apply CQB concepts, but how to teach them to others—from academy recruits to tactical teams.

Taught by instructors actively conducting operations in real-world environments.

📅 July 13–17, 2026
📍 SAC First Responders Academy

If you're responsible for training officers, this course should be on your calendar.
