At last count he was planning to crush over twenty different varieties from nine different appellations for the 2013 vintage. Most of these wines are produced in very small limited quantities. However, there are four principle wines that the winery strives to have available throughout the year and they are: Petite Sirah, Zinfandel, Barbera, and Petit Verdot. That’s a wrap on the 2026 harvest season!🍇

This year marked both our earliest harvest start and earliest finish ever at Runquist, kicking off on August 8 and wrapping up on October 8. In 61 days, we brought in an incredible 180 tons of fruit!

One of the most interesting details of this year’s harvest? We started and ended with the same varietal: Tempranillo! The first fruit to arrive was from Miravet Vineyard in Lodi, and the final fruit to hit the crush pad came from Shake Ridge Ranch Vineyard. What a way to bookend the season!

While harvest may be over, the work is far from finished. Now, the next chapter begins as we turn this year’s fruit into the “R” w**es you know and love.🍷

September is for Zinfandel lovers!🍇🍷

This month, we’re celebrating three newly released Zinfandels, each with its own unique style and story:

2024 Esola Vineyard Zinfandel — Voted Best Amador Zinfandel at the Amador County Fair W**e Competition this spring, this w**e comes from one of the last completely dry-farmed Zinfandel vineyards in Shenandoah Valley. The dry-farmed vines produce grapes with an added dimension of intensity and flavor.

2023 Nostro Vino Zinfandel — Tom’s Nostro Vino Zinfandel from the Steiner Road vineyard is always the last Zinfandel we harvest, and it is worth waiting for. Ripening later in the season when nights are cooler results in deeper color and bright, succulent flavors.

2024 Estate Zinfandel — Our Estate Zinfandel comes from Peroni Ranch Vineyard, just north of the tasting room. Originally planted in 1890, these old vines produce a classic expression of Old Vine Zinfandel.

And if you’re looking for the perfect pairing, reach for lamb.🐑 The tender sweetness of lamb is a beautiful match for the black raspberry flavors of an “R” Zinfandel.

Happy International Grenache Day! 🍷🍇

We’re celebrating with two bottles from the “R” portfolio:

🍷 2025 Grenache, Estate — Light and refreshing with soft tannins and luscious red fruit aromas and flavors. An easygoing pour that’s right at home on the patio.

🍷 2024 Grenache, Three Way Vineyard — With higher alcohol, more tannins and a little darker color than the Estate Grenache, this w**e is suitable to accompany more substantial faire.
