Hentz’s Orbweaver has made her appearance on the porch. A@beneficial@spider that offers free pest control and does not pose a risk to humans or pets.

She spins her web around dusk and then waits for a meal. Com dawn she consumes her web to recycle her silk for the next evening. Nature is amazing!

Dobsonflies are a non threatening species that are good indicators of a healthy and happy water system on or near your property.

Their larva are great for fishing bait.

Males have huge mandibles they use for mating while the females have smaller ones. While they can bite they are generally harmless and go about their business.

Just enjoying a visit from this lil Mason wasp. I let her groom herself and then she flew away.

Bug Girl Tip: Mason wasp are solitary wasp. They are very beneficial and will eat caterpillars from your garden. When you treat your gardens with dust or spray, you kill off your beneficial insects and will have less of a yield. One trick is to plant plenty of wildflowers near your garden and to also companion plant. This will help you to have a higher yield.
