Awful News: Illinois can expect a 60% price hike in electricity costs because of Illinois data centers according to a new report.

A new report from Bloomberg finds that AI will push up power costs by 60% as Illinois' power grid fails to hit supply goal.

Power-hungry data centers have increased supply costs for the largest US electric grid by more than 60%, a system watchdog group found.

On Tuesday, PJM Interconnection LLC, which serves 13 states (including Illinois) said that its auction to procure power for the year, starting June 2028, tied a $16.4 billion record set in late 2025., --- Data centers accounted for roughly $6.3 billion of that total,

The auction fell 6.8 gigawatts short of what PJM will need to guarantee system reliability during demand spikes. The shortfall is equivalent to almost seven traditional nuclear reactors.

Summary: Due to data centers, Illinois will pay out an additional 60% more dollars to power their homes and businesses very soon.
JB Pritzker and Democrats in Springfield continue to ignore the problem as they have ignored responsible legislation from Republicans to deal with the issue.
