Happy Columbus Day!...I Love America!!
Since 1906, every year the second Monday of October is set aside by the Americans to celebrate Columbus Day. Columbus Day is celebrated to emphasize the discovery of America by Christopher Columbus on October 12, 1492. Columbus Day became a ritual to spread patriotism by preachers, politicians, teachers and poets all over America. They outline themes like being faithful to the nation, rules that each one of them have to follow and support for war. Their overall objective is to make the nation successful. Columbus Day is now considered as a part of the United States heritage. October 12th, 1492 marks the origin of Columbus Day since Christopher Columbus visited the new world with the assistance of Spain. Columbus started the journey with the aim to find a western route to countries like China and India and fortunately landed in Bahamas instead. In the beginning, he did not know that he had reached an undiscovered part of the world; he thought he must have come to some region belonging to China, Japan or India. And to the end of Columbus life, he did not realize that he had discovered a new continent. Back in history, in 1492 Columbus left Iberia with the assistance of King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella, the Spanish Royalty and wanted to find a short and inexpensive route to India. The journey was for a business target. Columbus never knew of the American continent but in the process of finding short and inexpensive route to India, he unexpectedly landed in the continent of United States. He named the land "San Salvador", thinking that it must be the region of India. Columbus visited the region thrice in 12 years, but still he didn't know that land is unexplored.Irrespective to the regions, the whole America celebrates Columbus Day as a holiday. Government institutions, postal service, business firms and schools mark this day as a holiday while some entities hold special sales to celebrate this day grandly.
