Day 7 of 30 — Three Things to Check Before Monday

If you own a small business, take one minute this weekend and think about three things.

1. Your backups. When was the last time somebody actually tested restoring your data? Just because a backup says it completed doesn't mean you'll get your files back when you need them.

2. Your updates. That computer sitting in the back office that nobody's updated in months? It could be your biggest security weakness.

3. Who's watching your systems? If something suspicious happens at 2 AM on Sunday, is anyone going to know about it and respond? Or will you discover the problem when everyone comes to work Monday?

I've spent over 30 years working in IT, and these are the kinds of things that can turn a normal Monday into a very expensive one.

You don't need a huge IT department to protect your business. You need the right systems and somebody making sure they're working.
