Today is the perfect day to celebrate Spring and go for a drive in Southeast Ohio!
Start your day off right with a coffee from River Roasters Coffee Co. in downtown Pomeroy. While there, be sure to take a walk around Historic Downtown Pomeroy and visit some of the shops along the river!
After you've perused Pomeroy, head downriver just a bit to the Meigs County Historical Society and learn something about this fabulous area we get to live in.
Once you've checked out the Meigs Museum, take the short drive to Village of Rutland, Ohio, and let the kids play at the Jim Vennari Park.
After the kids have been tuckered out, leave Rutland and head north on US 33 towards Athens. Be sure to get off 33 at OH-681 in Darwin. Head out towards Tuppers Plains. You'll enjoy the scenery as the farmland and hills awaken from the cold winter in the beautiful sunshine.
By now you're probably hungry. So you'll want to check out the new Coolspot's Country Market in Tuppers Plains. They have hot food available and you'll to check out their Amish Walnut Creek products. It's like experiencing Amish Country without the 3-hour drive.
After all that pretty scenery, your mind will probably be filled with spring project ideas. Before leaving Tuppers Plains, swing over to TP One Stop, which besides having gas and food, has almost anything you'll need hardware-wise to get started on your project list.
From Tuppers Plains, stay east on Route 681 as you go towards Reedsville. There you can swing by Reed's Country Store or head down and see the Belleville Locks and Dam. From there, it's a beautiful drive down Route 124 as it follows the Ohio River towards Portland.
Just outside of Portland, you can view Buffington Island Battlefield, which is Ohio's only Civil War battlefield. It's in the process of being preserved and restored, but the monument is still a sight to behold as well as other historical markers.
From Portland, you take a hop, skip, and a jump over to Racine. Those kids are probably ready to get out for a spell and play, and Racine's Star Mill Park is the perfect place to stretch those legs.
Boy, I don't know about you, but I'm getting hungry! A perfect end to the day is to be had at Foxs On The River in Pomeroy with a piping hot pizza pie.
Enjoy Spring, Meigs County!
