⚠️ EXTREME HEAT WARNING ⚠️

The National Weather Service in Springfield has issued an Extreme Heat Warning through 8:00 PM Sunday, September 6.

🌡️ Heat index values could reach up to 110°F, with dangerously hot and humid conditions expected for multiple consecutive days.

Please take precautions during this period of extreme heat:

💧 Drink plenty of water and stay hydrated

🏠 Spend as much time as possible in air-conditioned areas

☀️ Limit strenuous outdoor activity, especially during the hottest part of the day

👴 Check on elderly family members, neighbors, and anyone without reliable air conditioning

🐶 Make sure pets have plenty of fresh water and shade

🚗 Never leave children or pets unattended in a vehicle, even for a short period of time

Heat-related illnesses can develop quickly during conditions like these. If you must be outdoors, take frequent breaks and know the signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

🔥 HOWELL COUNTY BURN BAN REMINDER 🔥

With the current burn ban in effect for Howell County, Pomona Fire Department would like to remind everyone to use extra caution outdoors. Conditions are extremely dry, and it doesn’t take much for a small spark to turn into a fast-moving fire.

🚫 Avoid outdoor burning. Do not burn trash, brush, leaves, or other debris while the burn ban is in effect.

🔥 Be careful with anything that can create a flame or spark. Even a small spark around dry grass or vegetation can quickly start a fire.

🚬 Dispose of ci******es properly. Never throw ci******es or other smoking materials out of a vehicle or onto the ground.

🚗 Watch vehicles and trailers. Avoid parking on dry grass, and make sure trailer safety chains are secured and not dragging on the roadway where they can create sparks.

🛠️ Use extra caution with outdoor equipment. Welding, grinding, mowing, cutting, and other equipment can produce enough heat or sparks to ignite dry vegetation.

🏕️ Think twice before using fire pits, campfires, grills, or other outdoor cooking equipment. Make sure you know what is allowed under the current burn ban before using them.

📞 If you see an uncontrolled fire, call 911 immediately. The sooner we are notified, the better chance we have of stopping a small fire before it becomes a large one.

Our grass, fields, and wooded areas are extremely dry right now. Add wind, heat, and low humidity, and a fire can spread very quickly.

The burn ban is in place to protect our homes, property, firefighters, and community. Please help us out by being careful and doing your part to prevent fires.

Howell County is currently under a burn ban due to extremely dry conditions and high fire danger.

Please do not conduct any outdoor burning until the ban has been lifted. Even a small fire can quickly get out of control under these conditions.

Please help us protect our community and our firefighters by following the burn ban.

🔥 HIGH FIRE DANGER – PLEASE AVOID OUTDOOR BURNING 🔥

The Pomona Fire Department is asking everyone to please avoid outdoor burning until conditions improve.

The National Weather Service in Springfield has identified an Elevated Fire Weather Risk for Howell County today. Hot, dry conditions combined with afternoon humidity around 25–35% are increasing the potential for fires to start and spread quickly.

While there is currently no Red Flag Warning in effect, conditions are very dry, and we strongly encourage everyone to hold off on burning brush piles, leaves, trash, or anything else outdoors.

Please also use extra caution with anything that could create a spark, including equipment, ci******es, dragging chains, and vehicles parked in dry grass.

🔥 It only takes one spark for a small fire to become a big problem.
