Cal Poly Pomona Landscape Architecture The Department strives to be a center of creative excellence in landscape architecture, internationa

Landscape architects are professionally concerned with the design, management, preservation, and use of the land. The curriculum in Landscape Architecture provides a foundation in all of these areas with particular emphasis on design, along with the cultural and technical subjects that support it. Coursework includes study of the elements and principles of art, design and planning processes, graph

ic communication, plants and planting design, construction methods and environmental history. Instruction fosters the development of creative and problem-solving abilities, communication skills, technical knowledge, environmental awareness and professional attitudes. In most courses, students develop design proposals or technical solutions for actual sites with instruction, guidance, and critiques from faculty members. In the final year of study, students may choose to emphasize urban or regional landscape issues.

They hiked and explored the region’s natural systems from the coasts to the mountains, and they toured historically significant cultural sites and immersive parks led by experts and designers. Inspired by what they experienced, the studio is looking forward to applying what they learned to their design process!

Those without an ENV CPP email will not be admitted. LA 4111L.01 4th-year Fall 2025 BSLA studio is investigating skateboarding as a way to build community and belonging in San Francisco! Skateboarding is a science, an art, a social network, a lifestyle, an education - as well as a sport. Engaged as a third-place, its practice in landscape builds strong community ties and is significantly linked to better health outcomes - both physically and mentally - through building social support and a sense of belonging in communities. People, particularly those aged 16-24, are currently experiencing high rates of loneliness and increased stress, with studies suggesting that this is potentially linked to mental health problems and increased risks of depression, anxiety, and substance abuse. Our chaotic world is in search of stabilizing community spaces in the public realm to bring generations of people together for a common purpose. San Francisco has historically become the destination for thousands of skateboarders worldwide. These spaces became the first globally recognized pilgrimage sites for skateboarders. The studio partners with San Francisco Recreation & Parks and SALT Landscape Architects! [swipe]
