We're officially at the halfway point of 2026 and that makes right now the perfect time to take a breath and assess where your business stands on HR compliance.

A mid-year check doesn't have to be overwhelming. Here are five questions every small business should be asking:
✅ Are your employee files complete and up to date? (I-9s, offer letters, required acknowledgments)
✅ Has your employee handbook been reviewed this year?
✅ Are your managers trained on recent policy or regulatory changes?
✅ Have you audited your job classifications recently?
✅ Are your required workplace posters current?

If you answered "not sure" to any of these, now is the time to find out.

The short answer? As often as the situation calls for it, because the ADA doesn't set a required timetable.

That means staying attentive. Did the employee's condition change? Is the office being remodeled? Did new software become available? Those are all great reasons to reach out. If nothing has changed, a once-a-year touchpoint may be all that's needed.
