3D Printing has many different applications. Starting from developing rapid prototypes for new product developers to building construction projects or heavy machinery parts in just blink of an eye.

Let's discuss about your project today. Why do you use 3D Printing? What's your purpose? And how do you feel after utilizing this technology in your project?

If you wish, feel free to explain the pros & cons you found along with any possible challenges you've experienced while using 3D Printing in your project.

Let the discussion begin in the comments below...

You may have wondered ‘what is the overall purpose and effectiveness of 3D printing’ when trying to simulate the part form, fit and functionality verification right?

Since 3D printed parts can be made with more rigid types of materials like Nylon for example, 3D printed parts are great for part form/fit/functionality verification as they ‘simulate’ the material characteristics of thermoplastic.

Note: however, a 3D printed part is still considered a prototype and a prototype is not a final production part.

3D printing is well known for its variety of material choices, fast turnaround time and cost.

Reach out any time with questions you may have or if you’d like to get a quote, send your CAD files for a quote in IGES, STEP or .stl

Looking forward to supporting you with your prototype needs.

From the early days of engineering, engineers have had a profound interest in 2D drawings.

And because of their old ingrained habits, they found it tough to part with 2D drawings and shift to modern-day 3D CAD files.

Here’s why they should part with 2D drawings and accept 3D CAD files as the new normal.

1.Interpretation issues

With 2D drawings, interpretation issues are common things. Sometimes what a designer wants to convey differs from what a manufacturer perceived as a result the end product is not up to the mark.

Though there are ways to mitigate the risk and minimize the errors, it's still an outdated process of carrying out the designing tasks.
Whereas, with 3D CAD files chances of errors slim down to none and a much swifter route to manufacturing.

2.Aligning with the Industry Standard

It’s no longer a debate between 2D drawings and 3D CAD files as 95 out 100 manufactures deal in 3D CAD files since they can easily glean a pricing quote and can begin the manufacturing process in the next minute.

Also, you can always make amendments with digital designs before manufacturing, -- thus it's cost-effective as well...

3D printing can do wonders for cost effective product development.

It allows you to print ‘proof of concept’ models to confirm part form, fit, and functionality verification, reduces the cost of production, requires less input (human resources and equipment), and reduces overhead. Additionally, efficiency and productivity is vastly improved.

So, when you need prototype parts fast and cost effective, send your CAD files and we’ll review them for you...

Let’s face it…your New Product Invention won’t make it to the masses without effective form-fit-functionality testing of the initial proof of concept prototype

If you’re creating a new product concept for the first time, chances are you might find yourself facing at least one or more of the following pitfalls…

👉 The first pitfall most new inventors fall into is thinking that their initial prototypes will suffice…

Often referred to as ‘my million dollar idea’ bias, no need to make it any better!

Solution: It’s simple! Start with an initial mockup version, then iterate...it’s inexpensive, fast, easy to make and test

👉 Spending more time pitching the great idea instead of ‘refining the prototype to work out the bugs and include target market feedback’.

Solution: a prototype is never perfect, it’s about always working on ‘perfecting’ it to meet the ever changing target market need and wants

👉 Giving up too soon-oh gosh...this one happens way too often!

This one is the most common pitfall that you should avoid it at all costs. Always step into the prototyping phase prepared and know how to navigate each step. This will help you move past roadblocks and turn bottlenecks into breakthroughs!

Still scratching your head wondering how YOU can position your new product invention for success with the proof of concept prototype?

If you’ve found yourself wondering how to reduce your product development costs by utilizing 3D printing...

Here are a few tips:

👉 Know your physical prototype needs so you know the right approach (product shape, dimensions, surface finish, matls, production approach, etc)

👉 Choose the right type of 3D printing process (ie., FDM/fused deposition modeling, SLA/stereolithography, SLS/selective laser sintering, etc)

👉 Know how & where to find the most reliable resources to get 3D printed parts!
