This time of year can be especially lonely for many people.

I pray that your Christmas and holiday season is filled with peace, hope, and love.

And may the new year meet you with clarity, strength, and grace. 🙏❤️

The people in Zimbabwe greeted us with radiant smiles long before a word was spoken.

Each glance said, “I see you.” I connected with some amazing people.

Connection always begins in the unseen moments—before meetings, before agendas, before outcomes.

Micro-moments build trust.

How do you show your team they’re seen?

Try This Week: Greet every team member by name and with eye contact. Notice how the atmosphere shifts.

Every great team shares one quiet habit — they notice before they act.

Awareness, not authority, creates alignment.

That’s why I always say: sometimes alignment begins with noticing — not planning.

Awareness isn’t passive — it’s a team skill that builds rhythm, trust, and adaptability.

These five Active Awareness Plays are simple, practical ways any team can strengthen alignment in real time.

1️⃣ 90-Second Room Read — Scan the room for energy (1–5). Adjust the agenda or add a quick connection moment.

2️⃣ Name the Signal — When things feel off, say what you notice to bring clarity and reset focus.

3️⃣ Mentor Leadership by Passing the Rope Forward — Help the next person take the lead.

4️⃣ Tempo Change — Match the moment; shift rhythm when focus fades.

5️⃣ Debrief Trio — Reflect together: What did we notice? What did we learn? What will we change next time?

Awareness is the first act of collaboration.

Which of these awareness plays does your team already use — and which one could make the biggest difference?

In Africa, I was watching everyone fall into rhythm.

I noticed something powerful.

People were paying attention — to each other, to the rhythm of the day, to the needs right in front of them.

They noticed what needed to be done… and jumped in.

It reminded me that sometimes alignment isn’t the result of direction — it’s the result of noticing.

When we notice, we create space for adjustments — and for people to contribute, step in, take part, and bring their strengths.

Try one of these five “Active Awareness” plays this week:

1️⃣ 90-Second Room Read: Scan the room for energy. Rate energy on a scale of 1–5. If energy is low, adjust the agenda length or add a quick connection moment.

2️⃣ Name the Signal: When things feel off, say what you notice. “I’m hearing different interpretations of our goal — let’s restate what success looks like.”

3️⃣ Role Elevation: Ask, “Who’s closest to the issue or opportunity?” Invite that person to walk the team through their insight.

4️⃣ Tempo Change: If attention drops, shift the rhythm — move from group talk to a quick pair-share or stretch break.

5️⃣ Debrief Trio: End with three quick prompts — What did you notice? What did you learn? What will we change next time?

Awareness isn’t passive. It’s the first step toward alignment — and the quiet force that keeps collaboration moving in rhythm.

Collaboration has no borders.

We joined the African Development Mission Trust (ADMT) in Mhondoro, Zimbabwe, where local leaders are empowering their communities through education, sustainable development, and spiritual growth.

Together, we built more than walls — we built trust, laughter, and shared experiences.

Every conversation, every song, every smile reminded me that when people come together with a shared purpose, distance disappears.

Grateful to Shingi Chizanga and ADMT for the incredible work they continue to do — transforming lives and communities through faith in action. 🌍❤️

When we arrived in Africa, I quickly realized that connection isn’t built only through conversation — it can also be built through song and dance.

The congregation welcomed us with harmonized singing and worship music that filled the space with warmth and joy.

Even without knowing the language, I understood the message.

Singing has a way of removing the barriers between us — of saying, we belong her together.

Their songs weren’t just worship.

They were playful, expressive, open, and full of life.

That joy softened the space between us and reminded me that play can be reverent, too.

In every culture, music and rhythm synchronize people emotionally.

When teams move, dance, or sing together, their breathing and energy align — that’s biological collaboration.

You don’t need a song in your office, but you do need shared rituals that bring people into rhythm.

✋️Leadership Practice
Start small — build one consistent, joyful rhythm into your team’s week. Here are 3 to choose from.

1️⃣ A quick check-in round before meetings
2️⃣ A shared “win of the week” ritual
3️⃣ A closing reflection that centers gratitude or learning

These simple rhythms tune teams just like a song does — aligning energy, creating belonging, and building momentum together.

Four days after my mom’s passing, I almost didn’t go.

But somewhere between a quiet prayer and a shared smile, I learned that transformation is never one-sided — it changes both the giver and receiver.

Collaboration starts with small, genuine exchanges that build trust.

Takeaway:
Be intentional about one small interaction today — a “thank you,” a moment of curiosity, or a kind word. It may look ordinary, but that’s where transformation begins.

🏀 Playing Team Sports Was My First Lesson in Inclusion and Collaboration

In just two days, I’ll be inducted into the Jordan Vocational High School Hall of Fame for Athletics.

While the recognition is an honor, what truly matters to me are the lessons team sports taught me—lessons that have shaped my entire approach to working with work teams today:

Everybody has a voice – the quiet player, the starter, the one on the bench… every perspective matters.

Inclusion builds trust – when people feel seen and valued, they give their best.

Collaboration is a skill – it’s not automatic; it’s practiced, refined, and built over time.

Understanding how people operate is key – the better you know your teammates, the better you can work together.

From my mom, I learned faith—to believe in myself and other people and their potential.

From my grandma, I learned service—to put people first and lift others up.

At Base Camp Emerge, these same principles drive my work. I help teams move beyond just “working together” to creating environments where every voice is heard, inclusion is intentional, and collaboration is second nature.

So yes—this Hall of Fame honor celebrates my past on the court.

But more than that, it’s a reminder that the lessons I learned back then are still the heartbeat of how I show up today.

(Yes, that's the 17- and 18-year-old me. Lol)

This weekend, I took a walk down River Street—and it never disappoints. The energy, the people, the aroma of food and fresh candy, the street music (even some a ca****la!), and all the sights… It’s such a rich experience. This 10-second collage is just a small glimpse into what I felt. Hope it brings you a little joy too.

🏀 A Little Throwback Surprise…

A lot of people don’t know this, but I used to play basketball in high school—and I was pretty serious about it. Serious enough to earn a college scholarship.

And after all these years, I just found out something I didn’t even know was a thing…

I’m being inducted into my high school’s Hall of Fame for Athletics!

To say I’m honored is an understatement. I had no idea this kind of recognition was even possible, and to be remembered after all this time truly means the world to me.

Can’t wait to reconnect and celebrate with everyone—thank you to all who were part of that journey. Your encouragement, belief, and support shaped who I am today.
