🍾 Clear Up the Confusion: No Glass in Community Bins!
It is one of the most common questions our team receives from well-meaning recyclers across the region. While glass bottles and jars feel like traditional recyclables, managing them requires specialized equipment that isn't available in our regional collection system.
🍾 Why Glass Cannot Be Accepted:
⚠️ Worker & Equipment Safety: Broken glass poses severe safety hazards to sorting personnel and can damage conveyor belts, sorting machinery, and collection trailer tires.
💥 Cross-Contamination: Shards of broken glass embed themselves into paper, cardboard, and plastic loads, turning otherwise clean, recyclable batches into trash.
🚛 Weight & Transportation Costs: Glass is heavy and abrasive, making it cost-prohibitive to collect and haul without dedicated glass-only processing infrastructure nearby.
💡 How to Handle Glass Items:
🫙 Upcycle & Reuse: Wash glass jars to reuse as food storage, home organization, drinking glasses, or craft containers!
🎁 Donate: Pass intact glass decorative items, mason jars, or cookware along to local thrift stores, schools, or community organizations.
🗑️ Trash Responsibly: If glass items cannot be reused or donated, place them securely in your regular household trash.
