Florida has now lost 105 children to drowning so far this year — a devastating, record-breaking number.
Last year’s total was also 105, and we have reached that number with nearly two months still remaining in the year. These are not statistics. These are children, families, and futures that should still be with us!

Drowning remains the leading cause of death for children ages 1–4, and it is both silent and preventable.

The Live Like Jake Foundation remains committed to providing survival swim scholarships, education, and resources to help reduce these tragedies. We urge all families to practice layers of protection, remain vigilant around all water, and prioritize self-rescue swim lessons for young children.

We must continue raising awareness and working together toward a future where no family endures the heartbreak of losing a child to drowning.

🌊 Meet the Instructor 💙

Hi! I’m Mrs. Sarah — your local Port Charlotte ISR Instructor and mom of 3! 👋🏼

I learned to swim at just 2 years old and swam competitively from age 7 through my senior year of high school. Swimming has always been part of my life, but becoming a parent completely changed how I saw water safety.

After my daughter went through a traditional swim program and came out with no real swimming or self-rescue skills, I discovered ISR in 2016 — and it changed everything. Watching my 2½-year-old rollback and float to self-rescue blew me away. Once my second child completed his first ISR session in 2017 I knew I wanted in. I became a certified instructor that year and haven’t looked back since! 💦

Over the past 8 years, I’ve had the privilege of teaching 400+ children these life-saving skills. My passion for drowning prevention grows stronger each session.

Drowning is the #1 cause of death for children ages 1–4 — but it’s preventable through proper layers of protection… and the last layer is self-rescue skills when all else fails. ❤️

Teaching children to be confident and capable in the water isn’t just my job — it’s my mission
