We have to do better. The statistics keep getting worse. Too many children are losing their lives to
drowning and it is preventable.

Get a pool fence
Door alarms
Constant supervision
And when all else fails, survival swim lessons

Life jackets and/ or puddle jumpers are not learn to swim tools. If your child is “swimming” in a life vest, they are not swimming.

The numbers continue to climb. Florida has now recorded 69 child drowning deaths this year, with 17 in May, 19 in June, and already 6 in July.

These are more than statistics—they are children whose lives were cut tragically short. As families continue to enjoy time in and around the water this summer, now is the time to stay vigilant and make water safety a priority. Every one of these tragedies is a reminder that drowning is fast, silent, and preventable with layers of protection.

💙 A Little About Me 💙

Hi! I’m Sarah, the instructor behind ISR with Sarah.

I was born and raised in Novelty, Ohio, just outside of Cleveland. I learned to swim at 2 years old before a vacation to Florida, and from age 5 through high school, I swam competitively on swim team.

After high school, I moved to Florida for culinary school and worked as a chef for a few years before switching career paths.

I was introduced to ISR when my daughter completed lessons at 2½ years old. Watching what she learned completely changed the way I viewed water safety, and I knew I wanted to help other families experience that same confidence. That’s what led me to become an ISR Instructor.

My favorite part of teaching is watching children’s confidence grow and seeing them learn to love the water while gaining life-saving skills.

When I’m not at the pool, I’m usually with my husband and our three kids. I love cooking, paddle boarding, running, and spending time outside with my family.

My heart is heavy seeing the number of recent drowning tragedies in our community. Drowning remains one of the greatest risks to young children, and it can happen quickly and quietly. As parents, it’s important to have multiple layers of protection in place, including active supervision, secure barriers such as fences and alarms, and water safety education. Survival swim lessons provide an important final layer of protection, giving children lifesaving skills should all other layers fail. Every layer matters, and together they can help prevent another heartbreaking loss. 💙
