Thank you so much to all page followers. I'm always happy to answer questions etc. After more than *ahem* twenty years as an archaeological illustrator I am now in the writing up stage of my PhD. However, I have been persuaded to help out with some drawings for a forthcoming book on archaeological ethics by Wait and Belford (forthcoming 2024/25 with Taylor and Francis). Here's a sneak peek at one of the drawings. Apologies for the huge watermark, but it's not published yet...

(For anyone interested, my PhD is at King's College London in Military History. I am writing up the history of an indigenous force under British command on North Africa, 1940-43.)

Hello to all the new page followers! Thank you for liking the page and feel free to look through and ask any questions. I am no longer working as an archaeological illustrator. After almost 20 years as an archaeologist and archaeological illustrator I have gone back to studying and am now a distance learning PhD student with King's College London. I am, however still very happy to pass on information about the profession and put you in contact with other illustrators if you are looking to commission work. I suggest that you also look up the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists (CIfA) Graphic Archaeology Group where there's a positive *insert collective noun* (gaggle? chaos? assemblage? murder?) of us. Interested in archaeology? Fancy learning what an archaeologist actually does? How do we figure stuff out from a muddy hole? If you feel like digging further (pardon the horrid pun) Join me for an 8 week summer course and with almost 20 years of post-graduate experience as an archaeologist, I'll take you on a whistle-stop introduction. The certificate course will be taught online via weekly Zoom sessions so there are no geographical restrictions. For more information and to sign up visit Independent College Dublin.

With a different hat on I lecture on a couple of degree courses at a business school. The academic council has just granted permission for me to develop and teach a short archaeology certificate. I hope it should be fun as well as interesting and I’m really excited to get all geeky about archaeology and share experiences of working as an archaeologist for so long. Please share if you know anyone who might be interested. Location no object as it will all be online.

Burgage Tower is only the recent and visible tip of a much older site. The National Monuments Record shows it is the site of 17 entries into the National Monuments Record

Busy, busy, busy here (which is always good) but my great intentions of blogging had diappeared. However, I am putting together a series of posts on objects I illustrated from Glastonbury Abbey for the monograph publication in 2015. Sign up for updates on my website rimsherd.co.uk for the next in the series.

Papal edicts from Rome had lead seals known as Bullae attached. Although the irony of a papal edict being called Bull is not lost on me; the tangible link to the power of Rome and an object which was carried nearly 130...

So many other things I really ought to have been doing, but getting pen to paper is good for my mental health and I miss it when I'm not drawing. Although I shall be dreaming in stipple dots tonight. Finished...
