Your Google Business Profile is not a one-time setup.

A useful monthly check includes:

- Confirming hours, categories, services, and contact details
- Reviewing new photos, questions, reviews, and suggested edits
- Comparing profile activity with the calls, directions, and website visits it produces

The goal is not to keep changing things for activity's sake. It is to keep the public record accurate, useful, and aligned with how customers search and decide.

We put our approach to ongoing GBP management in the first comment.

A good-looking website can still leak leads.

The fastest test is not "Do I like it?" It is "Can a new visitor figure out what to do next without thinking?"

Check four things:

- Is the offer clear in the first screen?
- Is there one obvious next step?
- Does the page work comfortably on a phone?
- Is there enough proof to trust the business?

If any answer is fuzzy, the design may be attractive while the conversion path is doing extra work.

We put Spilt Media's website approach in the first comment.

One missed Local Services Ads call can already mean a lost customer. Starting October 1, it may also become a charged lead.

Google notified some advertisers that a missed call during business hours may be charged when the caller stays on the line for more than 20 seconds, subject to exceptions.

The right response is not to panic or pause a productive account. Match ad hours to the hours a trained person can answer, test forwarding and phone menus from an outside number, assign a backup, and compare charged calls with qualified conversations and booked work.

Your phone system and your ad account are now part of the same cost-control process.

We put the full owner checklist in the first comment.

That unexpected Search Console owner email may be harmless. Google's recent wave of duplicate alerts was a bug, but the right response is still a two-minute access check.

Open Search Console directly - not through the email - and confirm the exact property, the user's role, Ownership history, and the verification method. A familiar address with an old date may be fine. An old agency account may be stale access. An unknown owner or unexplained token needs attention.

The real lesson: every business should know who controls its Search Console property and why.

Google AI Max is now controlling more of how your ad budget gets spent. The clicks you used to manually approve through keyword targeting are increasingly auto-routed by Google's AI based on signals you don't see.

What to watch:
β†’ Search term reports (auto-targeting can show up there)
β†’ Daily spend variance (AI Max can spike on "opportunity" days)
β†’ Conversion attribution (now blends across data-driven models)
β†’ Cost-per-conversion vs old benchmarks

This isn't a problem if you're checking weekly. It's a real problem if you set the campaign up 3 months ago and never looked back.

75% of visitors judge a business's credibility based on its website design alone.

That number comes from a Stanford study and it's stayed roughly consistent for the last 15 years. It applies whether you sell $20 services or $20,000 contracts.

The Port St. Lucie business owners spending $200/mo to be "on Google" with a 2017-era WordPress theme are paying for traffic that's bouncing the second it lands.

Google quietly let Gemini start summarizing reviews, generating Q&A answers, and rewriting business descriptions on Maps listings.

What this means in practice:
β†’ Customers see an AI summary of your reviews instead of reading them
β†’ Q&A responses can be auto-generated if you don't answer first
β†’ Your description can be paraphrased on display

The defense isn't to fight it. It's to actively manage Q&A, respond to every review (gives the AI better source material), and keep your description tight and accurate.

Your business is being mentioned (or not mentioned) in ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google's AI Overviews right now. Most local businesses have no visibility into any of this.

Three levers we use to track AI search visibility:
β†’ Branded prompt sweeps (ask the AI about your category in your area)
β†’ Citation tracking (which sources the AI is pulling from)
β†’ Schema and structured data audits (so AI can parse your site cleanly)

This is where local search is heading. The businesses that show up in AI answers in 2026 will be the ones who set this up in 2025.

When you stop paying for ads, leads stop the same day.

When you stop publishing content, last month's posts are still ranking, still indexing, still bringing leads 6 months later.

This isn't an argument against ads. We run plenty of ad campaigns. It's an argument against ONLY running ads.

The businesses that win long-term run both. Ads for immediate volume. Content for compounding equity.

If your only marketing is paid - you're renting your customers, not building an asset.
