ChuljianPropertiesLLC East Jefferson County Working Forests Production of forest products for local harvest and use. The "Eat Local" movement has caught on well in Port Townsend.

East Jefferson County working forests are becoming fragmented and converted to other uses, mostly residential. It makes sense to Harvest Timber Local as well. This will frequently mean clearcuts in the 40 acre range, but remember that forests have evolved to recover from large disturbances--fire, insects, landslides. There is a strong bias towards "Intact Canopy Harvesting" because it seems to lea

ve the forest intact, but improperly done, it's essentially Greenwashed High-Grading, and is not truly sustainable. "Clearcut Local" may not be a popular slogan, but it's frequently the best way to manage forest land and minimize the need to import wood products from other areas--many of which are much more delicate and regulated ecosystems than the Pacific Northwest.

Due to overenthusiastic use of the planer, we have a bunch of dry cedar and fir shavings. This is not sawdust, it's more suitable for animal bedding. It's free to a good home while it lasts.
