Adrenaline and nerves are a beast. Don’t let any public speaker tell you they aren’t. It may not be every time for everyone, but for me? It is every single time.
There is a lot that goes into stepping in front of a room full of people and essentially, baring your soul. And let me tell you, if you are a speaker and you don’t bare your soul, then you are likely not talking about something you truly believe in, therefore, talking about the wrong thing.
The gift of being able to speak in front of others comes with a responsibility. When you believe in what you talk about, you feel an obligation to represent the topic in a way that engages, educates, entertains, and mostly creates a change for people. That is a tall order and so nerves are a legit response.
But the message, the lessons, the results; they are too important, so you go forward with a red face sweaty palms, shaky hands, wobbly knees, and yes sometimes messing up your words here and there.
That is the reality.
Every single time.
But damn, it is an amazing honor and privilege. And OOH WEE that adrenaline rush is better than anything I can think of.
So thank you to the universe for letting me do this.
Thank you to The Oregon Clinic for seeing the value in organizational culture and leadership, and of course for hiring me to speak.
Thank you to Veronica Roberts for bringing my name up in a room I wasn’t in. This is the ultimate expression of empowering and lifting up the women around you.
