🥹 This is the kind of moment that makes time slow down.

Today my son handed me this bright red masterpiece and said it was for me. The first sentence I’ve ever seen that he has written on his own.

“I ❤️ U Mom because you are the best…”

There’s a dandelion taped inside like treasure.

And it is absolutely perfect.

As a play therapist, I watch children build language through play. Scribbles turn into symbols, which turns into meaning, which turns into connecting. But when it’s your own child, it hits differently. It feels like witnessing a bridge being built in real time.

This is why we protect play.
This is why we honor development instead of rushing it.
This is why we trust the process.

Today, I’m just Mom. And my heart is very, very full. 💛

Last days of Costa Rica and ! Una ferria, iguanas, graduation ceremony, a scarlet macaw, the beach, monkeys, and time with Tio FOFO! What an amazing week! Can’t wait for next year!

Day 4 of Play Therapy Week 🇨🇷✨

Today we actually got to use our play therapy skills at a local preschool, drawing faces and talking about emotions. Then we headed to a coffee plantation to see how coffee goes from fruit on a tree to the thing we all desperately need ☕️😅 (worth it).

Next, we went to Sarchí to see the incredible, colorful ox carts and the care that goes into making them. And yes… we saw a dog riding on a motorcycle. Sunglasses in a toddler carrier. 🐶🕶️🏍️

Day 3 of Play Therapy Week in Costa Rica 🇨🇷🎈(day 4 in Costa Rica)

An emotions balloon game, a thoughtful presentation by Lic. Karól Pérez, and (of course) more incredible Costa Rican food and coffee.

Play keeps reminding us that connection doesn’t require shared language! Feeling very grateful for this group and this experience. 💛

Day two in Costa Rica 🌿🇨🇷

Spanish study in the morning, conversations about culture and meaning (yes, I used Bluey 💙 because of course I did), and a mini walking tour of Grecia.

We wandered through el Mercado, drank yummy coffee, ate the best empanadas, and let learning happen with all our senses ◡̈

Costa Rica is wonderful! Pura Vida! Onward to day three 💛

First day in Grecia, Costa Rica 🇨🇷🌿
And… begins.

Feeling incredibly lucky to learn, wander, and be present in a new corner of the world with a small, wonderful group of humans who are curious, grounded, and ready to think and learn more about children, play, culture, and connection.

Today was about letting the environment teach alongside us.
Here’s to five more days of learning, reflection, laughter, and the kind of growth that only happens when you step a little outside your usual map!!🩵
