Greenfields, brownfields… what’s the difference?

A greenfield generally refers to land that hasn’t previously been developed. A brownfield, on the other hand, is a property where previous development or use may have left behind environmental concerns that can make redevelopment more complicated.

Think former industrial properties, factories, landfills, and other sites that may no longer serve their original purpose.

Sometimes, certain brownfields can be redeveloped into solar projects, creating a productive use for land that has already been impacted while supporting more renewable energy on the grid.

Not every solar project looks the same, and where we choose to build them is an important aspect of the conversation.
