We are pleased to announce that Beth Brett has joined SOJ’s leadership team as a shareholder!

Beth brings more than 25 years of experience managing and designing complex public, private, and non-profit projects. Her work is grounded in a commitment to prioritizing equity, inclusivity, and environmental stewardship in the built environment. This commitment is reflected in her service as Board Secretary for Verde, a nonprofit dedicated to bringing sustainability to communities most impacted by environmental and social injustices. She also serves as one of three members on the City of Portland Building Code Board of Appeal, helping review and decide appealed building code issues while advocating for more equitable, critically evaluated standards that reflect and support the needs of the broader community.

Beth is widely respected for her collaborative leadership style, rigorous attention to detail, and dedication to exceptional client service. Since joining SOJ in 2021, Beth has played a key role in leading community-focused projects including the Oregon Coast Aquarium, Holgate Library, Midland Library, St. Johns Library, Belmont Library, and Fort Vancouver Regional Libraries.

Beth’s leadership, strategic thinking, and ability to build strong partnerships will help shape the future of our firm while continuing to deliver meaningful, high-impact work for our clients and communities.

We’re honored to share that three SOJ projects have been named among DJC’s Top Projects of 2025!

A Better Red is an expansion of the MAX Red Line with 10 additional stations, eliminating long-standing bottlenecks and significantly improving reliability across the TriMet system.

The Beaverton Shelter converts a single-story retail building into a 60-bed, low-barrier, year-round shelter offering meals, showers, and 24-hour support for adults experiencing homelessness in Beaverton and Washington County.

The Holgate Library is Multnomah County’s first new permanent library in over a decade—a two-story, 21,000-square-foot facility that triples the size of the original building and features updated technology, multiple flexible programming and meeting rooms, large learning and play space for children and families, a new book locker, a teen room, and an outdoor plaza for community members.

Congratulations to our partners and project teams whose collaboration made these transformative projects possible:

A Better Red: TriMet, Stacy Witbeck, Parametrix
Beaverton Shelter: City of Beaverton, P&C Construction, Ink Built
Holgate Library: Multnomah County, Bora Architecture & Interiors, Swinerton

Exciting progress is underway at the Julia West House! SOJ’s Prashant Kulkarni is leading the charge on a 12-story cross-limited timber (CLT) high-rise, bringing 90 supportive housing units to the heart of downtown Portland.

The building offers studios and one-bedroom apartments as well as a community room, communal kitchen, rooftop patio, laundry facilities, and secure bike parking. The Julia West House aims to provide residents with a holistic support system, including onsite property management, comprehensive resident services, and case management, ensuring that residents receive the support and resources they need to thrive.

The design is set to seamlessly enhance the streetscape, making it a striking addition to the Portland’s urban environment. Completion is expected by Summer 2025. Stay tuned for more updates!

A big shoutout to our amazing project team: Community Development Partners, Holst, and Walsh Construction for bringing this vision to life!
