A lot of the work that matters happens in everyday moments.

Checking the details, answering a question, solving a problem, helping a coworker or simply making sure the next step happens the way it should.

Across CGI, these moments happen every day. They may not always get much attention, but together they keep our facilities running, products moving and our growers and customers supported.

Harvest. If you work in agriculture, you know.

It’s an important time of year. Long hours, tons of preparation and, most of the time, being at the mercy of Mother Nature.

Across CGI, harvest looks a little different from one region to the next and from one crop to another. But wherever we are and whatever is coming in, there are people putting in the hours and keeping things moving for our growers and customers.

Safety in Action

Sometimes, one of the most important things we can do is stop.

So far, teams across Columbia Grain have held 11 Safety Stand Downs, setting aside dedicated time to step away from normal operations and focus together on safety.

These Stand Downs usually incorporate multiple locations and give our teams an opportunity to learn, ask questions, talk through potential hazards and emergency situations, and strengthen how we look out for one another.

From hands-on demonstrations and conversations with local first responders to emergency preparedness and facility-specific training, each Stand Down looks a little different because each location and team is different.

What they share is a commitment to making safety part of how we work every day.

Safe & Sound Week is an opportunity to recognize the everyday actions that help create a safer workplace: taking time to communicate, staying aware, speaking up and looking out for one another.

Those actions may seem small, but together they help build a strong safety culture across our locations.

What does it mean to stop operations in the name of safety?

At Columbia Grain, a Safety Stand Down is dedicated time when our teams step away from their normal routines to focus on safety, preparedness and learning together.

Across our locations, employees have been taking part in Stand Downs designed around the real situations they may encounter on the job. Teams have walked facilities together, reviewed emergency action plans and practiced responses to grain entrapment, falls, fires, confined spaces and other facility-specific risks.

Many locations have also brought in local fire departments and emergency responders, creating an opportunity to learn together, walk through our facilities and strengthen the coordination that matters during an emergency.

Taking time away from daily operations sends an important message: safety deserves our full attention.

It’s how we prepare. How we look out for one another. And how we continue building a stronger safety culture across Columbia Grain.

The heat doesn't just impact crops. It impacts people.

As temperatures continue climbing across many of the regions where Columbia Grain operates, we're reminding our teams that no job is more important than getting everyone home safely.

Working in extreme heat increases the risk of heat-related illness, but simple precautions make a big difference:

💧 Stay hydrated
🌳 Take breaks in shaded or cool areas
👥 Check in on your coworkers
👕 Wear light-colored, loose-fitting clothing whenever possible

As harvest activity increases in many locations, we're encouraging everyone to recognize the signs of heat stress and look out for one another.

Safety isn't seasonal, it's part of how we work every day.

As harvest ramps up across different regions, it's a good reminder that a crop's journey doesn't end when it leaves the field. From there, grain may be tested, stored, transported and processed before becoming products used around the world.

Why it matters:
Moving crops from where they're grown to where they're needed takes coordination, expertise and a connected global supply chain.

For 250 years, America has been built by people willing to put in the work, invest in their communities, and grow something bigger than themselves.

Agriculture has been part of that story since the beginning.

As we celebrate our nation's 250th anniversary, we recognize the farmers, producers, truck drivers, elevator teams, and employees whose dedication continues to feed communities here at home and around the world.
