Earlier this week I had the pleasure of being the keynote speaker for SE Works at their BankWork$® graduation. Thank you to Prescoln Visathep for extending the invitation. Of course, anytime you’re speaking in environments like this you want to move people towards feelings of emotion, hopefully even a sense of intrinsic motivation. Truth be told, I always drive a point that the honoraries are the true inspiration for me and others and the hero of their journies. Below are key points I wanted to share from my speech.
✨“… we all have traumas that we are trying to unwrap and challenges that we are trying to overcome. But in the midst of it all, you made a choice. A concrete decision to set a goal of joining the program and put your career in motion. You did not succumb to any hardship or defiance. You preserved and dug deep to find resilience to fight on during whatever challenges you and your family may currently be facing. That is inspiring.”
✨ “… My favorite however, was Hope. I would tell the youth, family, staff, community partners, whomever I was connected with at the time - when you have hope, you can do anything. Hope is what keeps people moving forward, no matter what obstacles are in their way. When times seem severely dark in one’s life, a sliver of hope can lead them to even the smallest spot of light. That light grows and grows as you move onward and simultaneously your hope grows stronger and stronger.”
✨ “In the consulting world, I regularly talk with my partners about how remarkable we are as people, and that we are far more greater than we give ourselves credit for or set out to be. When I think of some of the greatest achievements historically, I like to question, “How did they really accomplish that.” … they were inspired by something deeply which motivated them. They held onto hope as the continued to fail again and again. Until one day, that overwhelming challenge or problem was overcome. To apply this in our own lives, I’m sure we can all learn and/or adjust something the way it is currently”
✨”…You can simplify goal achievement by focusing on your choices, developing healthy habits, taking advantage of opportunities that take you out of your comfort zone, and most importantly, find inspiration anywhere that you can. Tie that feeling down and hold onto hope every step you take forward. You can accomplish anything.”
Bankwork$ program is an exceptional resource for organizations looking to build partnerships with workforce development programs. If fitting for your organization, please reach out. I would be happy to connect the dots!
