Transitioning from founder-led to team-led isn’t easy. For many small businesses, the founder has worn more than a few hats (QC and R&D and Culture, oh my!), and empowering a leadership team requires a new set of shared tools and strategic systems. In what ways has the company been shaped around the strengths and ideals of an individual? How might it need to evolve to usher in the next chapter?

Last month’s Catalyst Lab explored this topic in depth: how to grow a new leadership team, how to evolve an existing leadership team, and how an organization can successfully move from being founder-led to team-led. Thanks to all who joined and made for such an engaging discussion!

Every month, Catalyst Labs invites owner-operators to ask better questions, share big ideas, or just workshop a current challenge. Each lab is unique, with a focused topic and curated guest list to ensure it’s as relevant and engaging as possible. Curious about this topic, or interested in joining a future lab?

Throwback to last month when we toured Lakeridge Middle School — a new timber-framed public- school building in Lake Oswego and a unique learning space centered around nature. We got to hear from members of the project team on its innovative design and construction, including columns made from whole tree trunks!

At Kinesis, we work with clients across the built environment — from architects to GCs, to MEP engineers, to mechanical contractors, to tech infrastructure, and to the building products themselves. So it was super compelling to see how those different disciplines come together in the context of a project — especially one where so much careful thought has gone into creating a great experience for students and educators. The building is beautiful, comfortable, and welcoming (we wish we went to middle school there!), not to mention efficient and sustainable.

Big thanks to WoodWorks, Mahlum, and KPFF Consulting Engineers for such an engaging look at this fascinating project!

🚀 We’re thrilled to announce the launch of the new Con-Vey.com!

At Kinesis, we love digging deep with clients to uncover and amplify remarkability. And Con-Vey is no exception: their commitment to velocity in everything they do is inspiring, and the new site is the result of that powerful brand vision. It showcases their innovative approach to engineering, project management, and technology integration, along with the incredible people who drive these solutions forward.

It’s been a pleasure to collaborate so closely with their team, and so rewarding to finally see this transformation made real! Congrats, Con-Vey!

See more of that transformation, and check out how they’re shaping the future of industrial solutions: https://con-vey.com/

What do giraffes and iPhones have in common?

…They’re both the result of an asymmetric bet. In a world that strives for continuity and predictability, they represent a disruption of order.

In the latest episode of Business Remastered, Jeff Wester and Anja Taylor discuss how to create breakthrough moments by drawing inspiration from the evolutionary process — moving away from “What already exists?” and instead toward “What else is possible?”

Brought to you by Kinesis, Business Remastered is a podcast designed to meet our current moment — because a new era of business demands a new approach. In each episode, Jeff Wester and Anja Taylor team up to explore new ways of thinking about (and growing) owner-operated businesses.

Today we raise a glass to Alanna Harter, celebrating EIGHT trips around the sun since she joined the Kinesis team back in 2016.

Happy anniversary, Alanna! 🥂 🥳

To know Alanna is to love her — from her practical strategic wisdom to her ability to rally everyone around a big idea (rare is the team meeting that doesn’t include at least one enthusiastic “YESSS!” from her). And you could hope for no better partner when it comes to exploring what’s possible and trying something new.

Thank you, Alanna, for gifting us with your presence for eight years and counting. We 💜 you!!!

Leading a business as its founder is easy.

…Just kidding. But at least roles are clear — it’s easy to know who is setting the course, and with whom the buck stops. But acting as a leadership *team*? That’s a different story.

In this month’s Catalyst Lab, we’re bringing leaders together to discuss the dynamics of this transition: how to grow a new leadership team, how to evolve an existing leadership team, and how an organization can move from being “founder-led” to “team-led.”

Hosted monthly, Catalyst Labs are a new kind of learning event: an exclusive, curated roundtable of leaders facing the same challenges you are. Together, we aim to ask better questions, share big ideas, and explore the potential of small business.

Looking for your next breakthrough? Take a lesson from evolution.

This time on Business Remastered, Jeff Wester and Anja Taylor examine innovation: what it really means, why it can be so hard to embrace, and what evolution can teach us about it. True disruption isn’t born of chaos, but of placing “bets” that can have exponential return.

Business Remastered is a new podcast from the minds at Kinesis — our way of taking a closer look at the business “best practices” that have long gone unquestioned and are now falling short. Each episode delves into a new or emerging idea about how to do business differently.

We interrupt your scrolling for a very important announcement: It’s Bekah Week, y’all! 🥂 🥳

This week we have not one but *two* reasons to celebrate our favorite designer-slash-musician: Not only is it her birthday, but she is also celebrating SIX years at Team Kinesis!

Anyone who has worked with Bekah knows the passion, intention, and (frankly) kickass design she brings to every project. Our clients are lucky to have her sharp eye and creative genius, and WE’RE lucky to collaborate with her curiosity, energy, and wit.

Please join us in toasting this sensational human being — and Happy Bekah Week, to all who celebrate! 😉

We don't often associate the words "love" and "work."
..But why not? In this episode of the Business Remastered podcast, Anja Taylor and Jeff Wester explore why this is such a missed opportunity - and how getting your people fired up about work they enjoy doing could be just the infusion of energy your business needs.
